Help Wanted: Pet Sleuth

Most of you know about our fur baby, formerly known as the 'teenage terror', aka Mr. Snicks, or Snickies, and if you're real familiar with him, word on the street has it that he also answers to "Hobart" in the backyard. Hobart being said with a British accent. It seems last night, he reverted back to his 'teenage terror' stage. I had finished another charity afghan (pictures forthcoming) and was too tired to put my materials away. Mind you, he hadn't touched any yarn in forever. Never, ever, trust that, if you have a kid of the feline variety!! Scooter and I had begun our nightly routine of getting ready for bed and in the blink of an eye, this is what happens when you turn your back for a few minutes to go wash your face and brush your teeth. And talk about looking innocent! He has cornered the market on it! I was so glad it was just some leftover acrylic and not my other beloved wools, or even more precious, my quviet! He shouldn't be able to get to those though. Hopefully, I have them stored safely in containers that he shouldn't be able to pry open.
He has his own toybox and I pick up after him everyday. Part of his stash includes a couple of foil type balls that he loves to play fetch with. For several months now, we have noticed when we get up in the mornings, one of them is floating in his water bowl...and it's the same one everytime. It's pink and silver, and turns his water a slight pink color. At first, we thought he was just getting a little over zealous with his playfulness and accidentally batting it into the bowl. The other night I was sitting on the sofa knitting and noticed him picking up said foil ball in his mouth and heading off towards the sun room where his food is. Then we realized he has purposely been drowning this toy.
Last night, when we came out and saw that he was trying to tie up the living room in yarn, Scooter began playing with him and pulled one of his furry little toy mice out to entice him with whilst I began gathering up yarn (our vet says it's not a good idea for cats to have yarn). This morning, we get up to discover he has drowned the poor critter! Has anyone out there ever seen anything like this before? We sure never have!! I'd love it if anyone can tell me why he is doing this. It's the most hilarious and strangest thing...we couldn't stop laughing when we saw this!!!! We pull these poor toys from the water bowl, and we can almost be assured the next morning, there will be another victim.

I have been so unfaithful to my knitting and crocheting lately, but at least I'm completing projects by rotating them each day. I'm typically a monogamous knitter, but I'm also a great prioritizer when there are deadlines. Dawn, aka knittinwolf, set a deadline for her charity drive and I had promised at least two lap'ghans. I completed #2 last night and am very pleased with it. I sometimes will make up my own patterns, or put different techniques together that I've learned over the last bajillion years of my crocheting life. I decided to do some granny squares approximately 12" in size and then joined them using the flat braid join. I love this join and have used it many, many times over the years, and it's especially pretty for baby blankets. I don't use it too often for baby blankies though, because the more closed in the pattern is, the less chance of a baby's fingers and toes getting caught in the 'holes'. Just depends on who the blankie is going to, but I do love using this join...it's very fast and pretty!

I think Spring has finally sprung for us here in northern California. It is just beautiful today, albeit a bit chilly, but the sun is shining in full force. The forecast is sunny for the entire next week too...what's not to love about that?!!? Not only that, next Friday, it's supposed to be 75 degrees Fahrenheit...time to dig out the shorts, tshirts, and flip flops..wooohoooo!!!! Driving down my local streets, looking off towards the east, we can see the Sierras and it is absolutely picture postcard pretty...the snow capped mountains are just awesome to look at. I don't have any pics to share, but I will try to get some before the snow is gone. Ahhh, life is good!!!!!

Have a great weekend everybody and if you live where daylight savings time is practiced, don't forget to set your clocks ahead one hour tonight before you go to bed!

  2. LOL...a hit man...too funny Courtney!! It is the most hilarious thing. This afternoon, he went hunting and brought in one of those seed pod things from our liquid amber trees in the backyard and was playing with it. We want to see if he drowns it during the night...LOL
Thank you everyone for the nice comments on the lapghan I made..I loved doing it for a good cause!!!!

The blanket is gorgeous. I like the idea of an heirloom quality blanket going to charity. What an angel you are to make them.
