A crash course

You want me to do WHAT!?!? Before I even had my second cup of coffee this morning, Scooter is wanting me to learn a bit about his day trading. The market seems to be very volatile the past couple of days with the news of the European market taking a hard hit. He gets very nervous and I can understand that, but this is really nothing new. We have watched the market do this up and down dance for the past three years or so. I have to keep reminding him that it's not like we have our entire savings and retirement tied up in the market either. In fact, we have none of that in the market...that would just be asking for trouble! Believe it or not, this was 'extra' money we had been saving in quarters, and twenty or so dollars here and there, over the past four years. It's surprising how fast it adds up and while I won't disclose the exact amount, I will say it was in the thousands. We are very good at saving. Even still, investing in stocks is a big gamble in this economy and nobody wants to lose. So, I have been delegated to sit at the command center today and keep an eye on our stocks. Not my favorite thing to do, but I will do it so long as I can take potty breaks and keep my glass filled with Italian sodas (chocolate please), and knit. Actually, that's an understatement...I hate being on the pc all day! So, in a nutshell, my day was planned out for me probably before I even got out of bed today, but, it's Friday, and as I'm typing this, the market has closed. I forgot about the three hour time difference! Yayyyy....my temporary job as a day trader is over!

Progress is being made on the little sweater and matching beret I'm making for my cousin's baby, and I'm loving it! I love the non-traditional colors for babies. The only thing I'm not sure about however, is the denseness of fabric this worsted weight yarn is creating for this pattern. It is working up very quickly, so I might do part of the pattern I've already done in a dk weight just to do a comparison. I am getting gauge, so as for size, it won't matter. As for the density though, it will make a difference. For now, I think I'm going to keep knitting on it and see what happens as I get further along with it.
I also need to get back to the Bellambie top for my granddaughter. I have neglected it while I've been getting this baby set started. I have about three rows to go and the back will be finished on it. There are no sleeves to speak of, so once I start the front, it should go pretty fast!

Our weather here in northern California has been the weirdest I have ever seen! Cool, cloudy days, with temps hovering around the low 70's. Our average temps this time of year are usually around 85 degrees Farenheit, and it's not uncommon for it to be in the 90's by the end of this month. The weather reports are even indicating rain for next Wednesday and Thursday, so it seems our weather pattern has definitely taken a strange turn this year. Just weird!

Whatever the weather is in your part of the world, I hope you have a nice weekend!!
