All's well that ends well

Well, I never intended to go this long in between posts, but sometimes life just happens and you can't do anything about it. My mom hasn't felt well for several months now and doctor appointments one after the other did not yield any relief for her. She had a lot of unexplained pain in her lower to mid abdomen. She has an awesome gastrointestinal doctor, but for some reason her primary care physician never referred her to him, but rather kept passing her off to either her back pain doctor, pain management, and vascular specialist. I finally told her she was going to have to be more insistent with him and demand a referral to her G.I. doctor, at which point I would be going with her for the appointment. After listening to her and watching the symptoms, I did my own research and became her advocate when the time came. At her appointment, I asked her doctor if it wasn't possible she could have ischemia somewhere in her intestines/colon? He ordered an ultrasound, but we never made it that far. Last week, mom became very weak with no appetite and quite a bit of blood loss. I took her to the hospital and after a couple of CT scans, she was diagnosed with ischemic colitis as well as diverticulitis. She remained in the hospital until last night and while it was as pleasant an experience as one can have under those circumstances, she was never so glad to be back in her own home. Needless to say, life picked up for me in a hurry as I juggled my home as well as my mom's. With mom on the road to recovery, I'm looking forward to both of us settling back into our established routines.

My sweet little Maggie continues to grow and has already forgiven me for the countless hours she was confined to in one of our bathrooms. At four months old, she is still too young to have free reign over the house unsupervised. She is still way too curious of different things and while she is finally housebroken, she needs to be able to get outside to take care of business. So I decided the best and safest for her was to be in a room where she couldn't get hurt, but yet it wouldn't matter if she had an 'accident'. Bless her heart...she didn't have not one accident. She managed to hold it until one of us got home to let her outside. What an awesome little puppy!

On my trips to visit mom in the hospital, because she slept most of the time, I was able to get a whole bunch of knitting done!! I continue to be so happy with the results of my Oregon vest...it's so exciting watching the design develop..I love it!!! I also got the back nearly finished on my Sausalito cardigan. At times, it was so nice to have something rather mindless to work on...especially right after shift change at the hospital. The nurses coming on duty needed to take mom's vitals, so it is always a busy time at the hospital during those moments. I was so glad I had something to work on that I could easily be interrupted with, if there were any questions that needed answers. I don't have any pictures yet, but I will get some in the next couple of days.

I hope y'all are healthy, happy, and are able to enjoy some beautiful pre-fall weather!
