Chicken soup, popsicles, and tea

Needless to say, I haven't felt like doing much knitting or crocheting since bringing mom home from the hospital and coming down with a whopper of a cold myself. I did manage to complete one of four moss stitch squares I volunteered to do for an afghan for the longtime companion of a friend who has been diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. There are 30 of us participating and the end result is just going to be phenomenal. I can't tell you how honored and privileged I feel to have been included in this project with what I would call 29 other world class knitters. Their work is absolutely astonishing and our hope is that this piece of art will bring much comfort and love to both of them!! The entire afghan is being stitched from Alice Starmore's Bainin Aran weight yarn, in an ivory colorway called Clisham and using AS designs. The filler squares will be 15 x 5" moss stitch squares like the one I knitted. I think this is the most beautiful yarn I have ever knit with!!! I will wait until I have all four squares knitted before I block. Now that I have my gauge down, I should be able to have these out in the mail by next week.

Scooter and I mostly used our three days to spend time together and do whatever each of us wanted to do. He came home early from the firing range on Saturday and we aren't sure if the shoelace gave out on his Keens, or they met their demise by way of a teething puppy. Nonetheless, it meant a trip over to REI for either new laces or shoes. We couldn't get replacement laces, and Keens apparently no longer makes the model of shoe Scooter likes, but we did manage to find some cording there that worked perfect...and the best part is, the salesman just gave it to us. I scored me a pair of Teva flip flops, which I wear about 8-9 months out of the year. Love my flip flops and sandals...until it gets cold that is...then it's handknitted socks for me!!! I just love the design in these flip flops though...very comfy too!

We didn't do too much after that since I have that blah congested feeling. The kind you just want to crawl back into bed and sleep your way to good health again...

I hope y'all had a wonderful three day holiday weekend....:=)
