After the game, we stopped by home to check on Maggie and I took her for a quick walk while Scooter checked on some ammo re-loading stuff online. When I returned back home, we settled her in and headed back out to go look at a house Scooter found and we wanted to look at. It's huge and a little farther out than where I want to be, but I told him I would think about it. It's on quite a bit of land too, so having some acreage would be nice, especially for the size family we have! From there, we headed back into town for a stop at one of the big boys' toy stores, better known around here as Sportsman's Warehouse, so that Scooter could pick up some reloading powder. Just down the street, a friend of mine, or rather a knit sib, was at her church for a holiday boutique. It's rare that I can resist a craft faire! Scooter and I both were fascinated with watching Sue and her friend Diane, spin on some beautiful wheels. I wish I had gotten pictures, but didn't think about it until after we had already left. Diane's father made her one of the most beautiful double drive wheels I have ever seen, completely from scratch...literally. He actually cut down the walnut tree himself to make her this wheel. How special is that?!! Sue was working on her very cute little Hitchhiker, busily spinning some fiber from a sheep that she hopes to turn into a fabulous sweater for herself. It seriously got me to thinking that maybe I do need one more hobby. Scooter thought it was pretty cool and even asked me if I thought I might like to spin. I don't want to right now, but I told him to ask me again after the holidays are over. My aunt has a wheel that nobody in the family even knows how to work. It belonged to her ex mother-in-law who has since passed on, but I would love to be able to go to her and either teach her or see if she'd like to get rid of it. I remember trying to make it work as a young child and getting yelled at for it, but I'm thinking now I could prove my abilities to my aunt, rather than her thinking I might destroy such a beautiful heirloom.
Back at the craft faire, I purchased the cutest little 'ditty' bag that I thought would be perfect to carry a pair of in progress socks in. The sewing on it is perfect, and I felt like I was stealing it for a mere $6.! I can hardly wait for next weekend for some more holiday boutiques in our area!!
Now that it was nearing lunch time, Scooter wanted to treat me out for lunch, so a stop at a local restaurant to replenish ourselves was perfect! Across the way from the restaurant was our next stop where he would buy me my first pair of Dansko shoes for the winter. I forgot to take a picture of them to show you before it got dark, so I'll save that for another time. I am absolutely in love with the workmanship, the beautiful leather, and best of all, the fit!!! OMG, they are so comfortable and cute at the same time!! They will be the perfect shoe that goes with just about everything....
A stop at the grocery store on our way back home was next. We were invited to a bbq at my daughter and her family's home, as well as some other friends of ours. I offered to bring some hor'deurves, and our friend is a chef, so he brought one of the most awesome potato salads we had ever had!! My son-in-law built a lanai in their backyard and it was the perfect ending to a wonderful day to sit outside in it for dinner, with the fire pit warming us and keeping any leftover summer mosquitoes at bay.
On top of a long, but awesome day, I also managed to get started on another hat for the troops. Why has nobody told me what great yarn Cascade 220 Superwash is yet? This is my first time of using it, and I'm thinking I'm now a 100% wool convert. For a workhorse type yarn, it is unbelievable to work with, in my opinion. It's soft, warm, washable, and will have a long life as a hat. I'm knitting it on sz 7 (US) Addi turbos, and am using the Classic WWll Watch Cap pattern again. I would love to use it for a sweater sometime!
Since this is the month for giving thanks, I would like to say how thankful I am for my fantastic husband, my beautiful daughter and awesome son-in-law, and my precious grandchildren!!! I am truly blessed beyond words!!
