My guess is you thought my post for today's theme would have something to do with food, right? Well, I decided to take it in a different direction, just because this arrived for me in the mail yesterday, and I'm all about "tasting" new fibers I've never spun before. Even though I've had my wheel for two years now, I haven't been consistent, so my spinning career isn't that extensive. I have spun Blue-Faced Leicester before, but not in a superwash. I have spun Merino as well, but as a blend with other fibers mixed in. So, a few days ago, I saw an ad on Ravelry for an indie-dyer called Lavender Sheep, and decided to try some of her fibers in colorways that intrigued me. The two smaller rovings with the brown in them is called Columbia River (my husband has spent a great deal of time on the Columbia), and is the Superwash BFL. The larger ones with the purple is called Monet (one of my best friend's daughter's name is Monet), and is the Merino Superwash. I bought two 4 ounce braids of each, and am really looking forward to "tasting" them!
Even though our weather here in northern California is still quite warm, it is beginning to get chilly in the evenings and mornings. There is a certain smell and feel in the air that is pointing towards autumn, and I love that! It's one of my favorite times of the year. Yesterday, I picked up some new flavors of air freshener called Fall Hayride, and Pumpkin Spice. I couldn't wait to set out the Fall Hayride one...wow, did it stimulate the senses and bring Fall into my home! It made me want to go upstairs and bring down all of my fall decorations, but I resisted and only brought out one piece that sits out all year long anyway, just in a more obscure place where it isn't noticeable. Inside is a votive candle holder, and this year, I think I'm going to find a soup toureen shaped like a pumpkin. I'm told that pumpkin soup is very good and it's something I've been wanting to taste for a long time....so, for soup weather, pumpkin soup will be on my list of recipes to try this year! Well, I did manage to bring a little about food into the theme today, didn't I?
