Last year, when my husband decided to take on a consulting type position with a major Austrian corporation, we knew it would involve some traveling. I'm okay with that, especially if it means I can go with him when/if I want. Most of the time, I like just staying put though, and enjoy our time together when he gets home. I can't say the name of the corporation, or exactly what it is he does, but I can tell you it's with a railroad entity (he retired two years ago from the railroad), and it takes him to some interesting places. Well, most of the time. Other times, not so much. It's those "other" times when he finds a lot of time on his hands, so last year, when he was traveling up through the Montana and Wyoming areas, he discovered and learned a lot about the geography of the land there. I won't bore you with the educational aspects of it, but I wanted to share with you some interesting things he found. He began noticing interesting rocks and petrified wood, so he started collecting them to bring home and see what he could do with them. We went and bought a rock tumbler/polisher, and wow, some of these agates and moss agates are beautiful!! There are several pieces I would love to do some wire wrapping around for pendants, etc. This year, his travels have taken him over into the New Mexico territory, and the big blue rock in the top right of the picture is a piece of turquoise he found there. He is still trying to decide if he wants to polish it or leave it in its natural state. All of his collections are so fun to see how they turn out and to look at them. Our grandchildren just love looking at them and holding them too. What a fun new hobby!

My quilted table runner is coming along very well. I'm enjoying making it very much, and yesterday, I began the actual quilting of it. I decided to just do a free motion grid, and so far, I'm pretty pleased with it. I'm not sure yet, but I'm thinking about going with a solid red binding (no border). I'm really loving the aqua and red together!! I forgot how much I enjoy sewing, so expect to see more of it here as I hope to do a lot more of it in the future!
The top photo shows in progress with my blue chalk lines, and the bottom photo is of the back. I should have it finished by the weekend and I will post photos.
The past couple of days, I've been enjoying having some of my grandchildren with me. Monday was a school holiday for them, so we went rollerskating, and that really is a lot of fun for me. I love taking pictures of them, but I went off and forgot my camera, and I prefer that over my cell phone camera. We will definitely be going again, I'm sure! My third oldest granddaughter will officially become a teenager in a couple of weeks, so we also spent some time doing her makeup and hair. What a knockout she is becoming, if I don't mind saying so myself! :)
I'll be back very soon to share some knitting with you. I'm making great progress on my L'nveloppe, and am just loving the fabric that all garter stitch, combined with Madeline Tosh Vintage is working up into!
Those stones look so beautiful, I want to touch them! :) xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Jess! I hope to learn how to do some wire wrapping so I can make some pendants with them. :)
