Accomplished weekend

Lots of knitting has taken place since I last posted! Most all of it is for charity, so now I need to get the items off in the mail. I finished the glitzy little scarf I was working on. Nothing fancy, but the request was for something with a little 'bling' in it. I already had some fingering weight alpaca in a light pink, so I thought adding some ribbon 'yarn' with it would be fulfilling that request. I chose a very simple, mindless, stitch so the gold in the ribbon would show up better. It doesn't get much easier than garter stitch! I used sz 15 needles, so it took me two days to reach the length suggested, which was 60-62 inches. This will be going to a charity I found on Ravelry, called Handmade Especially for You.

I also knitted up two hats for Bev's chapter of Warming Families, and will get those sent off very soon. Bev is the designer for one of my favorite afghans I crocheted for my grandson in 2005, called Kitties in a Row, which she offered up for free on her website. It is still a free pattern on Ravelry, and if you don't belong to Ravelry yet (which I can't imagine!), you should be able to get it at her website here. I love being able to use this as a way to thank her for her contribution to us crocheters and knitters out there, and at the same time, help people stay warm for the winter! I got these hat patterns off of Ravelry...the striped one is a pattern I've used many times called the London Beanie, and the green one is Wool Noggins by Marie Grace Smith.

I can knit these hats up in a very short time...3-4 hours maybe? So, I do plan to do several more, and the best part is I can use up some more of the older stash, while helping to warm families!
I put up a contest a couple of posts ago, so be sure to check that out as well!!
I am now on the foot part of my first Pumpkin sock. Scooter and I spent a relaxing evening together last night, and he is never offended if I knit while we talk, as is the same with anybody that knows me!!! They expect it from me. It's who I am. They would think something is wrong if I didn't have a crochet hook, or knitting needles in my hands when my legs aren't moving! lol When my mouth is engaged though, it's a very normal and natural thing for me to be knitting or crocheting. What about you? Do you crochet or knit when conversing with people that you visit with? I have taught many friends that happened to pop in for a visit....wonder if that's how KIP day got started?

I hope your week is off to a wonderful start and you get to finally enjoy some Fall weather. It looks like we might get to do just that here in northern California! Yipppeeee!!!!

  1. Hello there!!!
Look at all your knitted goodies. VERY productive. These cool fall mornings make me want to knit.

My family and friends know that I actually concentrate on the conversation more and that I am more relaxed while I knit and talk. Unless, there is a problem and I am trying to figure out a mistake in lace. (then I get cranky).. ha. but I don't usually knit lace when I have friends over.

I bring my knitting to Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. After all the hard work and meals it is nice to sit around with the families.. the grandkids playing...football or a movie is on..... sometimes we play a game.. but it is understood that I have needles in hand most of the time...

I have a few non knitter friends that don't "get it" so I don't knit while visiting them, they seem to think that knitting requires all my focus and I get the feeling they feel neglected. So I sit and concentrate the best I can while secretly going through withdrawals. ha ha

  3. I have to knit when I'm sitting around; I always have mine with me. The cursing livens things up. Specially if Mom's there.

Beautiful socks, and I love the London Beanie too. I made several of those last year.
