Is that what I want?

I'm faced with an opportunity to become a dog owner. I haven't had a dog in a number of years, and while Scooter likes our canine friends, he isn't too crazy about the prospect of ownership. I'm kinda diggin' the idea, and have promised him I will take full responsibility for its care. Oh, maybe I should've started at the beginning. A friend of mine had told me a while back that she thought her little dog might be pregnant. Without even thinking, I blurted out "I get pick of the litter!!" That one statement has snowballed on me, and so I got the call two days ago that mama dog delivered SEVEN wee ones! This is a small dog, so I was sure I would only have three at the most to choose from, especially since this is her first litter. But SEVEN!??! She seems to be handling it well I'm told, so I will be seeing them for the first time on Sunday. There are moments where the idea of having a "purse puppy" gets me excited, and then I stop and think about what we will do when we travel. As it stands now, Scooter and I pick up and go whenever we want without having to worry about a whole lot of preparations. So I'm wondering if having a little furry friend is going to be seen as more of a hindrance than anything else? Then I go back the other way and think about how much I will enjoy taking it to the doggie park and going for walks. Oh, and then there's Snicks, who if you've been a long time reader here, you know he is Lion King. How will he react? Will he retreat to under the bed, never to be seen again? What to do, what to do.....

Scooter and I have a flurry of activity going on this weekend, so we intend to take full advantage of putting our feet up this evening and just enjoy the quiet. We have a couple of birthday parties to go to, and of course, since the weather is going to be of stellar awesomeness, Scooter has some time planned to be spent with the local rifle club he belongs to. I have half a notion to go buy one of those big ol' hammocks for two and create my own little oasis in our backyard. I can envision it now...curl up in the gorgeous sunshine with a good book and something yummy to sip on...ahhhhhhhhh. I'm sure I can fit in a few minutes somewhere in the weekend. Right? Maybe?
I've only got something like eight more rows left to do on my Mara shawl and then I get to start the border. This shawl has been a real snoozer, but then I wanted something mindless to pick up and just start knitting on without having to refer to a chart or pattern. The border is probably going to be a big yawn too, but I know it's going to be very much appreciated when I need something warm to wrap around my neck and shoulders on cool evenings or this next Fall. After shopping yesterday, I stopped in for a much needed pedicure and actually took Scooter's socks in with me to work on. I didn't get too far, but hey, every little stitch counts for something and soon, I will cross the finish line with them. I will be very glad to get those off my needles. I'm not really keen on the Zauberball, but I do like watching it gradually change colors. These will be some very nice "dress" socks for the hubby.
Enjoy your weekend!!!
