Overrated "vintage"

Doesn't it always seem like when you least feel like smiling or laughing, something comes up to where you can't help yourself? Or rather, you want to, but it just plain hurts. Scooter had some dental work done yesterday, and while he felt like moving around, he tried to handle his job the best he could, but people kept hanging up on him. I would say about 40% of his job is being on the phone. Picture this: his mouth is packed with gauze, the side of his face looks like he has the mumps and he's talking through clenched teeth, making him look like an angry bulldog. I couldn't help myself. I know it's not funny, and I truly felt so sorry for him, but every time I looked at him, he made me laugh. The poor guy finally gave up trying to work (he sometimes works out of our office at home) and took a pain pill. When he does that, he can't drive his company truck. He began feeling better, so we decided to take a ride over to the big box hardware store. The weather this time of year motivates us to plan our vegetable garden, we needed some lattice for a jasmine plant we want to move, and had primer and paint on our list for the lawn chair we picked up this past weekend. Now, here comes the reason for this setup....
When I spotted the first "vintage" lawn/patio chair at the antique store a couple of weeks ago, I set out on a mission to find at least one more so I could have a pair on our front porch. I thought this was going to be a real challenge, so I was thrilled when I discovered that a woman over in the canyon whom I've become friends with, had a set of four and I could buy the whole lot if I so chose to do so! Even though I only wanted one and it was a totally different design, I still wanted it since I just knew I had hit the jackpot and probably would have a heck of a time tracking down anymore! Now, this time of year, when you walk into these big box stores, the first thing in your face are the bajillion different barbecue grills. I'm not talking about your ordinary kettle style of bygone years when you were a kid. I'm talking flippin' outdoor kitchens y'all!!! Complete with a stove with cast iron cooking grates (awesome!), sink(s), granite countertops, and cupboards to store your cooking paraphernalia in. Scooter and I always take a look at them just out of sheer curiosity, I suppose. As we're moving past the bbq section, I could've swore I saw several of my "vintage" patio chairs. No, it couldn't be. It had to be a mirage of some sort. I started to walk past them with little notice, and hoping Scooter would do the same, when I hear this...

Scooter..."honey, aren't these very similar to what's on our front porch now?"
Me: "Scooter, where's the paint department?"
Scooter: "oh LOOK honey, they even have them as gliders (double seater)!"
Me: "uh huh, I'm sure they want a king's ransom for those chairs brand new, so let's just get the paint and get out of here".
Scooter: "hmmm....hon-ey, I could be wrong, but looking at the sticker here, I'm thinking they are the same price as what we paid for the one that's already on our front porch, so why are we buying paint for the second one?"
Me: "ummm, so we can do even more bonding as a married couple while we're working on it."

As you can see, I wasn't winning this one. He came back with this...

Scooter: "well, I thought that's what we were going to do when we're sitting in them together?"

I couldn't help myself. I was defeated. The poor man is talking through those clenched teeth, and I burst out laughing! LOL Then he started laughing and we completely forgot to get the lattice we originally went after.

Who would've guessed those retro/vintage chairs would come back in style and be sitting right down at the local hardware store? We thought we were being so clever and bringing back the yesteryear of our childhoods. We decided to go ahead and get the primer and paint for the last one we bought, but keeping in mind that if we don't care for the way it turns out, we always have the option of just going and buying it brand new. We still may do that though anyway. We have a very large family and are always in need of extra chairs. I did purchase the matching side table yesterday, so that part of my plan is resolved, and I love it when a good plan comes together!

I managed to begin another charity hat, my fourth Rainbow Marley. I finished it this morning and am now going to take a break from them, so as to not burn out on them. I'm feeling the need to cast on for a shawl, but haven't quite solidified that idea yet. With this stunning weather we're in the midst of right now, I'm also feeling the urge to go buy some flowers and pick up some veggies to get our garden going. In need of some sunshine, Scooter and I decided to open out the umbrella on our patio and sit for a couple of hours yesterday. It felt absolutely divine!! That's another area I should get busy with too...the patio table and chairs need a good cleaning, and the umbrella could use a good dusting as well, as you can see in the pic at the top. With so much to do today before getting together with the knitting group this evening, I better call this a post for now...but before I do, I want to thank sillyfru for the awesome award she bestowed upon me. I'm so stoked about it and as soon as I get a chance, I will do what I'm supposed to do with paying it forward!!
