Reconnecting

During my kids' school years, mainly middle and high school, it seemed we always had a houseful of adolescents. I loved it, and some of them would even tell my kids they loved hanging out at our house. Well, there were always fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. Some of these kids, I developed a very good repoire with, and it was fun watching them grow into young adults. Some of them went their own separate ways upon graduation from high school, and some didn't go so far away after all. I recently reconnected with one of these kids (well, she's a grown woman now) on a social networking site. She is such a sweetheart with a lovely family, and is actually a grandmother now (WHAT?!?!?). I did see her a time or two after she had her two babies, and it's now so hard to believe they are all grown up themselves. I had posted a picture a couple of days ago of some dishcloths I knitted, and she swooned over how much she loved them! Well, that's about all it takes for me and you might as well send me your favorite colors and your address. So, I have finished one cloth, and will make another one today to get sent off to her. The pattern is the ever easy and quick, Grandmother's Favorite, the cotton is Sugar 'n Cream in the Green Twists colorway, and I used a sz 7 set of needles.
Anticipation! Almost as though she knew
what was coming next. Poor baby!

Yesterday was my Maggie's second visit to the vet for her second round of 'baby' shots. She didn't mind the first set and actually, didn't even notice. This time, yeah, not so much...she noticed and hated it!!! Afterwards, she didn't feel very good, so I pretty much left her alone for the rest of the day. Everytime I tried to pick her up, she cried, so I guess she was pretty sore. It broke my heart to leave her when it was time to go to knit night, but there really wasn't much I could do except let her rest anyway. I was a little upset though, so I called my friend Courtney who works for a vet clinic and she reassured me that it was normal and my Maggie would be okay. And she was! She is still a little tender at the site where she got poked, but she is back to her normal, feisty self this morning. One more shot in three weeks, and she's good to go for a year...yayyy!!

The day before yesterday, after I had finished posting, my sweet and thoughtful husband came through the door in the middle of his very busy day to bring me a surprise. To me, this is better than a guy who picks up a phone to call and order flowers. Don't get me wrong...I love roses and my ex husband used to be very good about ordering the same bouquet of red roses quite frequently, and while it was a fabulous gesture in the beginning, it became a fairly predictable routine for him. So to me, it lost its appeal after a while, because it seemed as if no thought went into it. In other words...big deal...so he could pick up the phone and order flowers on a pretty regular basis...anybody can do that, right?...nothing special. There was no spontaneity, which we women tend to love in a man. So, if you're a guy that happens to be reading this, remember to do something more surprising...shake it up a bit...it keeps the relationship fresh! A little thought and planning goes a long ways, as well as the little handwritten card in their own writing. According to askmen.com, roses also don't show much imagination, and don't last as long as more exotic flowers. If you think about it, when women buy themselves flowers, they usually don't go for the roses, they go more for color. Oh, and not only did Scooter handpick my flowers himself, he also swung by a deli and picked us up some fresh turkey wraps "so we could have a picnic on the patio", before he went back to work. I am one lucky lady and I thank God everyday for my Scooter!!!! Make sure you let that someone special in your life know how much they are appreciated and how much you love the special things they do to make you feel special and show you they are thinking of you throughout their day. And if money is an issue, or not, in these economic times, there are a million other ways to show them they are on your mind! :=)
