Hold everything!

Scooter and I spent an awesome entire weekend together...the first in a long time! Although part of it was bittersweet with a memorial we chose to attend up in the Feather River canyon on Saturday, it was a beautiful drive. On our way back down, we stopped at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants for a nice dinner. Then I remembered some friends of ours (a gal I went to high school with) just bought a new home, which was also on the way back down the hill. I remembered this morning that I used to crochet her sweaters when we were in high school. Hmmm, I might have to do something else for her now, some 40 years later, to show her how I've progressed since those days. LOL Scooter has always enjoyed their company as well, so we decided to surprise them with a visit. What an awesome house...a bungalow built in 1940 complete with an in-ground pool, a claw foot reproduction tub in the master bath and updated cabinets, etc. We left with lots of inspiration and ideas for our kitchen and baths. It was such a lovely visit...all of their kids and grandkids were there as well. Some of them live in the bay area, so I hadn't seen them in many, many years. We then came home to a very welcoming little Maggie..what a little sweetie!!!

With a stressful week behind us, we decided to sleep in yesterday, and then lounge around the house with coffee and I made us a brunch of some scrambled eggs, cheese, toast, fresh cantaloupe and peaches, which we sat out on our patio to eat. We talked about how Scooter's new boss was beginning to lighten up a bit towards the end of the week, and what we would do with the two weeks vacation time he still has left for the year. No plans carved in granite yet, but tentatively, we'd like to take another trip to Denver to visit Scooter's kids and grandchildren, and another trip to Idaho to visit more family. We will just have to wait and see how things go...

After brunch, we got ready and headed over to the fireplace store only to find they are closed on Sundays. We have been researching for a couple of years now what would be the most green and yet efficient way to heat our house in the winter. In the next county over from us, they have banned burning of wood in fireplaces except for on specific days. We know it's only a matter of time for the county we live in to adopt the same practice, so we are thinking either a wood pellet stove insert, or a gas one. We are going to get estimates for both. After finding the store was closed, we headed over to a furniture store to look at bookcases/shelves. We want a certain kind to fit on each side of the fireplace and I think we've found it. They were out of stock, but we should be able to get them on Tues. or Wed. No big rush.

My plans for today were to clean our home from top to bottom, and organize some closets and drawers. I don't know if any organizing will get done now, but if I hurry, I can clean the house at least partially. While having my morning coffee today, I got a phone call from one of my grandchildren wanting to spend the day with me and maybe hang out at a movie or something. I will NEVER turn down an offer like that...those are THE best kind of phone calls!!!! Housework and organizing will have to take a backseat!

Not much knitting or crocheting has been done since Friday, but I have almost finished the crochet project that I have had to rewrite quite a bit of the pattern for. I seriously thought this would be a very quick project, but all in all, it's moving along and since it's a surprise for one of my daughters, there isn't a deadline anyway. I have made a little progress on my Oregon vest..not as much as I would've liked up to this point, but I have promised myself it will be ready to wear in the fall.
A bit of a teaser of the surprise for my daughter...:=)

So, that's my update for today...I hope your week is off to a great start and that you had a very nice weekend!! Would love to hear about it too!!
