Scooter acted like he didn't believe me after the mouse fiasco the other night. Remember, the one where Snicks brought me a present into the sunroom that had me jumping around everywhere like I was playing hopscotch, and screaming? I told him "usually where there's one, there's a whole family of the disgusting critters!" He said he thought it was an isolated event, that Snicks "probably caught it in a neighbor's yard down the block". After seeing me terrified of the thing, I'm thinking now he was just trying to calm me so I wouldn't have the neighbors calling the police. I mean, c'mon, the guy was raised in the country and has to know that there is no such thing as a loner in the rodent species. Where there's one, there's a family, and he knows it! This morning, I let Maggie out into the backyard to take care of business, and usually after a couple of minutes, she is barking to let me know she is ready to come back inside. When that didn't happen, I went to have a look to see what she was up to...after all, she IS still a curious puppy. She met me coming from around the corner of the house.
Ok, I didn't want to post a pic of the vile thing, so trust me, under that bucket is not a cute little critter of the Disney variety. I had to get close enough to put it over the mouse that was still squirming, but obviously on his way out. I wanted to puke. It's not like I can call Scooter to come home from work either to dispose of it, since he had to go out of town on business. Well, of course! Isn't that the way it always works out?
Onto something a little more pleasant. When my oldest daughter, who is now 36, began preschool, she right away made friends with a little boy that was as cute as could be. His mom turned out to be the nicest person and we became fast friends. They were also neighbors of ours, and then life happened, that took us each off into different places. Periodically, we made contact, and pretty much always knew where each other was, and if not, there was always email. Then the trials and tribulations of life really took hold, and there was no contact for about 15 years or so. Sure didn't seem that way when we finally caught up with each other yesterday for lunch, and an afternoon gabfest. "G" now lives over by Bodega Bay, and I'm about three hours from there, so we chose a halfway point. It was so wonderful reconnecting with such a dear, longtime friend again, and I can hardly wait to meet up with her on a more frequent basis now! Oh, did I mention she is a knitter and crocheter too, among many other awesome talents?!!? She went to a gem and metals school (I forgot the name of it) in San Francisco and makes beautiful jewelry!!

There has been quite a bit of knitting since my last post. I'm now going into my 10th of 20 repeats on my Coin Lace scarf, and still loving it as much as when I started it. It is ohsosoft and will make a lovely addition to my fall wardrobe. I'm not sure yet if I will do the entire 20 pattern repeat, but I won't know until I get closer to that point so I can measure, keeping in mind that it will grow when I block it. I love this shade of purple so much, that I now want to knit a sweater out of something as close to it as I can get. I'm thinking that's a project pretty far off in my future though. Also, I am just about ready for the heel flap on one of the socks I am making for Scooter. It's going faster than what I thought, but then it's pretty mindless. I'm anxious to see what the solid black heel and toe will look like. Hmmm...a thought just occurred to me...if I had chose to do them in red, his socks would look like sock monkey socks! Wonder if I should rethink those heels and toes? I think I just might...Scooter has such a fun sense of humor and personality, that I think he would actually love that! Any excuse for a trip to the LYS, right?
