For the past couple of days, I thought my knitting mojo got up and walked out the door. Maybe not my mojo exactly, but the frustration of not being able to see too clearly, was certainly discouragement enough to cause me to put my Oregon vest down again. Without going into too much detail, suffice to say that after going to the opthamologist yesterday, turns out I suffered a hemorrhage (don't ask me to pronounce it) in my left eye. I will spare you any pics. Yuck. It's a pretty severe one, in that it has been absolutely blood red (the whole white part) since Tuesday. The doctor said it's one of the worst he has ever seen, but they always say that, right? This is the second one I've had in the last couple of months, and they always insist I either coughed or sneezed hard, causing a vessel to rupture. Not the case at all, unless I do it in my sleep. The first time it happened, I woke up one morning with it, and I'm pretty sure Scooter didn't send me into next Tuesday with a fist to my eye. This time, I was walking along in the grocery store when I felt a sudden pressure along with a little pain, and some blurriness. I pulled off into a quiet aisle to investigate with my compact mirror. You know, it freaks some people out if they see you touching your eye that has a contact lens on it, so I try to be as discreet as possible. Courteous of me, wouldn't you say? My eye had filled with blood, so I pulled my contact out and paid for my groceries as quickly as I could. Otherwise, I'm sure if too many people had noticed, they might have had flashbacks of Michael Jackson's "Thriller". It's that freaky looking. The doctor said it would take about a week to clear up, but my dilemma and question to him was "how do I see meantime with no contacts?" I have no backup specs. I know, dumb. Glasses give me a headache though, and no, I don't ever want to get used to them again. He suggested I just go get a pair of the non script reading glasses. Two pairs. One with the highest power for up close stuff, and 1.75 for distance. Oh joy. It means I am having to constantly switch back and forth. Oh, and the computer...he said somewhere in between. Huh.
I think I have come to a solution for switching off and on though. Scooter laughs at me. I don't need anything really for distance...I'm farsighted. So I wear the higher power ones down on my nose and look over the top of them. It's an inconvenience for now, but I think I'm going to give it one more day and go back to my contacts. Hopefully, the swelling of my orb will have receded some and it won't be quite so irritating. Oh ProClear Multifocals, how I am missing you!
The vest is getting closer all the time to cutting those steeks. One more row, which is going so fast now that I have been decreasing for the shaping of the armholes, and I will begin my neck shaping. I'm feeling a bit ambivalent about it all. Excited that I'm just that close to cutting, but yet, a bit nervous. Thankfully, Toni (coolpinkone on Ravelry), a friend and neighbor of mine, has traveled that road before me, and is willing to teach me. I thought she was such a sweetheart before I took this on, but turns out, she is an angel!!! If you get a chance, drop by and check out her projects...ahhhhhmazing!!
While I have been on a bit of a hiatus from said vest, I took the opportunity to work on my socks I started last October in a mystery knit along ( truer color in second pic). What a gorgeous design from Kirsten Kapur and the Malabrigo sock yarn is a dream to knit with. So very soft, and scrumptiously squishy! I finished one whole sock, so I now just have half a sock left to do.
I remember telling everyone that I wasn't going to cast on for another single project until I had cleared up my WIPs. I'm revising that and going to cast on for something new in the next couple of days. The reason.....I once again found myself with no take along project and it just feels odd to walk out the door with no knitting in the purse. I'm seriously considering Terra, by Jared Flood, since I have some of his new yarn called Shelter. I LOVE this yarn, so I will have to order two more skeins for this project. Not exactly purse knitting, I know, but work with me here...I'm trying to justify casting on for a new project. Seriously, I'm going to start some new dishcloths tomorrow for a CAL/KAL I committed myself to, and those travel well. If you're interested, check out the group, All Around the House on Ravelry. Lots of great ideas and information!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Hmmmmmmmmmm...red eye, red sock? Coincidence????
ReplyDeleteHope your eye clears up soon. My Mom had that happen once. Yeah, it looks a little freaky AND a little painful. Glad it's not TOO painful.
That sucks about your eye!!! I love the socks though!
ReplyDeleteHey Dee...I never even put the two together! lol My husband says I'm just a "delicate little flower", but he keeps teasing me nonetheless. Scoundrel.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Courtney! They are so pretty and feel so nice on my feet!!
ReplyDeleteYour socks are beautiful. They look very cosy. I hope your eye clears up soon. x
ReplyDeleteThank you, Shirley! So far, out of all the socks I have knitted (except for my very first pair), these are my favorite. :=)
ReplyDeleteOuch, it sounds awful. But it will WILL WILL get better... ugh.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nancy! Day 6 and it's already much better. I was able to put my contacts back in yesterday, with only minimal irritation. I didn't leave them in long though. :=)
