Not even a slight breeze is present in today's weather. I'm pretty sure with triple digit temps forecasted for today (102 F), summer has arrived here in northern California, and when it does, the conversations between Scooter and I always turn to making the decision to have a pool put in or not. It won't be happening this summer, but I'll keep you posted on this one.
I mentioned in a group on Ravelry that I co-moderate with my friend Toni, how I made the two hour drive to my daughter's yarn shop over the weekend because a woman dropped off a llama fleece for anyone they know that happens to spin. It's beautiful shades of brown and white and she tried to clean it up as best she could, but when I picked up some tufts of it, you could see it was still quite dusty. A member of our group who happens to be an avid spinner popped on to let me know that all I have to do is literally throw it up in the air (outside, of course) on a windy day, and it should take care of a good amount of that dust. See first paragraph above. Looks like I'll be washing, and then washing again to get that dust out. I'll be back with pictures to show you how this little adventure goes.
A longtime, dear friend of mine had a birthday just under two weeks ago, but because she started a new job with crazy hours, it has been difficult to get together. I finally sent Kathy a text last week and asked her when I could take her to lunch for turning another year older...lol She replied and told me Monday, the 20th would work for her since she had that day off. Perfect! Originally, I was going to cook our lunch, but my house is a wreck right now with the makeover my front bathroom is going through, so I suggested I come pick her up to take her out somewhere, and she insisted on meeting me at the restaurant. She is a new knitter, so I took her a gift of some stash enhancing goodies. Some Noro Taiyo (another cotton/silk blend by Noro), three skeins of Berroco Ultra Alpaca Light in a gorgeous deep red, a to go size Lolo bar for her purse, some very cute summer hor d' oeuvre dishes (Kathy loves to entertain), and a cute little plaque type sign to put amongst some of her flowers on her deck. After lunch, we headed over to a Starbucks to spend the rest of the afternoon knitting and having coffee. What a great way to spend the day!!! Things aren't going well for her on her new job. Okay, she flat out hates it, and I hate hearing that. If anyone deserves to be happy, it would be her, so I'm hoping things take a turn for the better for her soon!!
While in her neighborhood the other day visiting another friend, I happened to pull into a shopping center that had the coolest 'statue' (for lack of a better description). It was fairly warm and I spotted a frozen yogurt shop where I could stop for a quick snack until dinner. I actually used to live right behind this shopping center when I was in high school, and it sure would've been nice to have had this yogurt shop to go to back then...along with a Peet's Coffee right next door, or a Starbuck's inside the grocery store that's there too. Anyway, I snapped a photo of this huge chrome rooster as it just seemed odd to me at the time. Wonder if it signifies anything?
Maybe I'll do some checking...and then, maybe I'll just let it go and chalk it up to one of those odd things like another sculpture we have on my side of town.
I wanted to talk a little about spinning in my post today, but I am heading out to go get my hair done, so once again, I'll have to put that on hold until I can get back here. I hope wherever you are, you stay cool, and if you happen to be reading this from down under, bundle up and stay warm!
Very exciting about the fleece. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Angela...it is going to be quite interesting! I'm hoping to have it ready for Tour de Fleece.
ReplyDeleteThat rooster looks somewhat related to the horse in front of the Safeway on 19th St. in downtown.
ReplyDeleteI HATE weather this hot! I think anything over 80 is excessive (coast girl).
Hey Seanette...good to 'see' you!!!! (We still need to get together too) Funny you should say that about the horse...this rooster is in front of a Safeway in Fair Oaks. Hahaha Wonder what the deal is with that?
ReplyDeleteAfter having moved back from Kentucky 4 1/2 years ago, I'll take this DRY heat. Let me tell you...throw in about 95-100% humidity with the high temps and everybody walks around dripping with a really bad temperament!
I forgot to add that this rooster, every 14 feet of him (he's huge!)looks chrome. Pretty cool looking!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you gave your friend some lovely gifts! She will love them and very thoughtful of you. Stay cool.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nancy! Kathy did seem to love all of her goodies, and I'm all about enabling brand new knitters!
