Scooter and I decided to take a bit of a respite from the home projects yesterday to see what we might find at some yard sales. We hadn't done that in quite a while, so with water bottles in hand, we set out across town to an older part of the area where Scooter likes to go in hopes of coming across more of an estate type sale. We found one where we had the best time chatting it up and laughing with two brothers and their wives. The brothers had to put their dad into a retirement home, so they were getting rid of nearly everything and will eventually rent the house out. They had already held the sale last weekend, so we didn't find too much we really wanted, but for the right person there were some awesome deals. However, I did find this vintage fan for a dollar, that I will paint and even though it works perfect, I want Scooter to fix the cord on it. It is going to look pretty 'cool' wherever I decide to put it in the house. I'm thinking the sunroom might get to claim it. We will see....
I almost looked right past this little gem! For 50 cents, I just couldn't pass up this little tattered knitting and crocheting paperback, by Carol Curtis. It was first published in 1953, and even though the front cover is completely detached, I loved some of the vintage patterns in it!
I also bought a candlestick and Scooter added a dvd to his Lord of the Rings collection.
After a full afternoon of picking through other's castoffs, it was time for dinner, which Scooter wanted to take me out for. We have a new Chicago style pizza restaurant in our town, so we decided to try out some of their pie along with a cold beer. It was probably the most authentic we will come to Chicago style pie locally, but it still wasn't the same as we have both had before in Chicago. The beer was your typical choices with Scooter settling for the usual Newcastle Ale (he prefers dark draught), and mine a Corona with lime. We had had a pretty full day, so decided to go home, kick back and watch a movie. We had just walked in the door when I noticed the light on the answering machine blinking. It was my mother and I could tell in her voice she wasn't right. I called her immediately and she wasn't feeling well, so we gathered up Maggie, stopped at the store for some chocolate pudding she wanted, and headed over to her house. By the time we got there, she was feeling much better, ate some of the pudding, and promised to stay down and rest. I checked on her a couple of times already this morning, and thankfully, she is feeling much better!
I haven't gotten much knitting done since Friday. I was feeling so overwhelmed with all of the projects I have taken on, that I decided to do something else...for ME! I can't divulge what it is yet, but I can tease you with the yarn I got for it. I called my daughter at her store, asked her what she thought the best choice would be for my project, and the very next day, this arrived at my house!! Before I even got off the phone with her, Mike, her fiance already had it packaged up and left for the UPS store. I guarantee you that you would receive the same prompt, friendly service if you would like to give Aimee a call at Aimee's Yarn Cafe...(530)872-5648. I love this Pima 100% cotton from Berroco, and the color is awesome!!
Last, but not least, here is my first yarn cake handspun by me!!! I am so jazzed!! It's merino/tencel blend and the colorway is Peacock Plume....I think it's probably a medium fingering weight. Since I navajo plied it, I only got about 45 yards out of four ounces, but I'm also a beginner, so I'm sure with practice, I will eventually get a lot more mileage out of four ounces of fiber. I just love it though, and now I can hardly wait to knit something from my own handspun!!
Your handspun looks awesome, great job! Take care and tell Scooter hello for me and Give Snickies and the puppy some love for me!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Courtney! I would've never guessed I would take up spinning, but I'm so glad I did. It's so much fun!
ReplyDeleteI will give them all a big hug for you! :=)
First off, love that dollar fan!
ReplyDeleteSecondly, does Aimee have a website for her store? I need some purple yarn for a headband for my daughter as I just sent her a purple caftan from Amazon and would like to give her some business.
Thank you, Nancy! I'm almost tempted to leave my fan the original color, and probably will if it goes to live out in our sunroom.
ReplyDeleteI will send you a message via Ravelry about my daughter's store. That is so sweet of you, thank you!
I love the handspun and the lovely things you picked up at the yard sales.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nix! Hope to do more of both soon!!
