Caffeine deprivation not allowed

It's not a good thing when you wake up to this....see that crack?

And in the middle of it is a small hole.

I hunted Scooter down in the shower to find out why there was no coffee this morning. He began to explain that when he got up at the crack (no pun intended) of dawn, and walked out into the kitchen to pour us a cup, coffee was everywhere but in the carafe. He went on to say it must have cracked under the heat. Ok, so I'm no CSI expert, but I'm pretty sure I could tell by looking at the hole in the bottom that it had been hit on something. Like maybe a divider in the kitchen sink when someone washed dishes last night while I was with my knitting group? I also know that glass carafes are typically made from a high temperature glass. I suppose we could've gotten a lemon, but honestly, seeings how we have used this carafe for well over a year now, and we have a history of going through several of them, I'm thinking not. It's not important, but it wouldn't have been a pretty sight this morning, if we didn't have our French Press!

Scooter and I apparently don't do well with coffee pots, but I suppose every couple has their thing, right? In the 4.5 years we have been together, we have gone through three coffeemakers. It's crazy, but here's the deal. It seems carafes are not interchangeable. We started out with a Krups. Oh how I loved my Krups. It was red and fit in perfect with my decor. Just like our red toaster. I can't remember who and it's not important enough to try, but one of us hit the bottom of that carafe too. I'll take credit for that one, since I vaguely remember the one washing it at the time. Off to Macy's I went for a replacement. Guess what? It has to be ordered online. Thank goodness Scooter had stored the brand new coffeemaker I had just bought before moving in with him! It was a decent and adequate enough Mr. Coffee, until we could order my Krups carafe. Well then Christmas came along shortly after, and my daughter and son-in-law gave us a newer, fancier model Mr. Coffee, that was black with red details. I was getting my RED back!!! And then it happened...again. Yep, can't even remember how that carafe met its demise, but it did. So back out comes that coffeemaker Scooter had stored...again. Meantime, it seems Scooter has come down with a case of procrastination, and still hasn't ordered that Krups carafe. Or it could be that in the back of his mind, he was thinking we had a coffeemaker that worked fine, so no hurry, right? Are you confused yet? Me too. And now that I have realized I've just been babbling due to lack of caffeine, I think I'm going to stamp this one with a big red URGENT.

Things have been crazy busy the past couple of weeks. I have a class reunion coming up and have been working on the reunion committee. They joke with me about being the P.I. of the group, since I love tracking people down. It's time consuming, but it's really not all that difficult in this day and age with the internet. Back in the day before the internet, my mom was a process server and I watched her use many other ways to find people. Especially if the company she worked for had a person's social security number....long before the privacy act. Of course, I don't have my classmate's ssn, but it's been fun going off of whatever lead I can get.
I have managed to get in some spinning, knitting, and crocheting time. I'm not going to make this post 12 pages long, so I'll just show you a couple of things for now.

A longtime high school friend asked me to knit her daughter a shawl for her birthday at the end of the month. Not knowing a thing about knitting, she leaves the design and yarn up to me. For this particular person, she wanted it in black (ugh!), and I knew I needed to get started on it before my new eyeglasses arrive next week. I chose Ishbel by Ysolda Teague since I've knitted it before and loved it. I chose to knit it in Knit Picks Stroll, fingering weight as that's what I had in my stash in black. I will have to kick things up a notch in order to get this done in the next couple of weeks. Bring on the caffeine.

Spinning has become a new obsession for me and it's so hard to resist constantly ordering new and yummy fibers. This came for me a couple of days ago from the Cupcake Fiber Company. This stuff is like little puffs of clouds packaged up in a bakery type box! And the colors! Oh, the colors! This is in the Roses ll colorway and I love the way Joan does this. She gives you two 'cakes' of each color and once spun, you should have two skeins, enough for a pair of socks. These are in a superwash BFL with nylon and feel oh so scrumptious!!

Currently on my bobbin being Navajo plyed is four ounces of another SW BFL from Fat Cat Knits in the colorway Moonshadow. I may have already shown you this in a previous post, but just in case I haven't. I spun this for the Tour de Fleece, which I'm so behind in posting to Ravelry about. I am meeting my daily goal so far of spinning for at least an hour, so that's a very good thing for me. Lots of practice and if I end up with a usable yarn...score!!

That's it for now. I have a date with one of my grandsons today, which always makes my day the best possible ever!!! I hope whatever your day brings, it's just as fabulous!

  3. Wow Toni...I envy you being able to keep coffee pots for so long!! It just doesn't happen in my house. We need a rubber sink..lol

I'm really looking forward to spinning my little 'cakes', and if all goes well, I see more of Cupcake Fibers in my future!

  4. I'm glad too, Nancy! We have smaller coffeemakers but we have them stored upstairs for traveling. We hate using the ones that are provided in hotel rooms, for numerous reasons.

The customer service at CC Fibers was excellent as well!! Very friendly!

  6. I actually tried to talk Scooter into one of the stainless carafe ones, but he nixed it and now I can't remember why. Something to do with the quality of coffee?
I am having such a great time with spinning..even if they do still look like a beginner's yarn. I haven't even started the purply-pink ones yet...soon!
We miss you too Courtney...and all those afternoons and evenings spent knitting with you and having coffee. Maybe I might have to make a day trip down your way and we can have lunch!
