Somehow, when I began this re-decorating project, I wasn't thinking it would turn into doing two rooms at the same time. And it looks like it could possibly snowball on me and turn into three rooms, but that third room will have to wait. I should have realized that swapping two rooms would naturally have to be one big project. We decided to do away with the den, since it is a separate room closed off with French doors from the living room. This room would now become my craft/sewing/office room, and anything else I choose to do in there, i.e. spinning, knitting, painting, drawing..whatever I want. When we turned it into a den and moved our tv into it, we decided to paint it a nice calm avocado green. It worked well for a den, but we really don't watch that much tv, and my spinning wheel was in the living room, where I spent a good deal of time. In order for it to work as my craft room though, the walls needed to be turned back to white. I need it to be nice and bright in there, plus, it will look much nicer with my decor, which I plan to keep as simple as possible. On Sunday, I began prepping the room and went and bought my paint, Glidden's Duo Paint + Primer, in an eggshell Antique White (remember, I have grandchildren, so needs to be washable). Yesterday, I began painting, and after taking a look at it today, it appears I'm going to need to go buy another gallon. So much for a built in primer! It's not covering very well, and is going to need two coats, but I suspect it's obviously because of trying to cover a dark color. No worries, I love painting, but I would like to get my room put together soon...I miss my spinning!! The ceiling fan you see in the picture is also going to be swapped out for a white one, or I'm even considering the idea of hanging a vintage chandelier in there. It is my room after all, and that would so be me!!
This is a wreath I made a couple of days ago out of a wreath form and some burlap ribbon. I love how it turned out and it gives a little texture to my decor, which is kind of eclectic, but as I said before, leans towards shabby with a touch of elegance maybe? Some silver and gold thrown in for the elegance part, and lamps with a vintage flair. It's not hung on the wall yet, as I still need to pick up something for a hanger. I think I'm going to go with a fairly wide (2 inch maybe?) white wired ribbon and it will be hung on this wall above a book shelf.
This isn't an overnight project, but I'm definitely enjoying the process, and once it's finished, it should be really easy to go from one season to another. I belong to a Tuesday afternoon knitting group, so I'm going to take a break and go knit for a little while...I'm looking forward to seeing friends and knitting!!
In other crafty news.....my daughter and I have discovered that my 12 year old granddaughter enjoys scrapbooking. How cool is that!?!? This past March for her birthday, she got to go take a class on the care and training of dolphins, then got to swim with them for a couple of hours. She LOVED it, and my daughter got tons of pictures. She is now in the process of 'scrapping' them...I can hardly wait to see what she comes up with. I think my daughter and I need to look into taking some workshops with her!
Last but not least, I would like to wish my granddaughter, Emily Brooke, a very happy 17th birthday!!!! I love you with all my heart and soul!!!
It is SO nice having a craft room. (Even if Husband does sometimes say craP room... Ahem. So I am not tidy, sue me.) Looks like the family will be crafting together? :)
