So, sew!

Lately, I have been in the mood to sew. Of course, I have, I took my sewing machine over to a sewing center to have it serviced this past Friday, and it won't be back for about 2 weeks I'm told. I think I might have mentioned in past posts that my machine was a gift from my son in 1993, but in my mind, it bears repeating. I was busily sewing his future wife's wedding dress, and all of her bridesmaid's dresses, which was either four or five, I can't remember. The machine I was using at the time was a Singer Golden Touch 'n Sew that my husband at the time had bought me in the very early 70's when they first came out. I loved that machine, but it was getting tired and no longer had the features on it that served my purpose. It was a great machine while my kids were growing up though. I sewed ALL of their clothes, including my daughter's bathing suits, my husband's shirts, and then wedding attire for all of my kids. The timing on it kept going haywire and I needed to get those dresses done. So, my son went out and bought me a beautiful brand new Kenmore that I absolutely love to this day! It was working great until the last time I used it and I discovered I had lost the reverse on it. I can't sew without a reverse, and it's a must have for quilting. For what I consider to be an excellent price, the sewing center people have assured me the reverse will be fixed and it will get a thorough tune-up. My sweet husband I am currently married to has offered to buy me a top notch machine of the highest quality (his mom had a Bernina), but I want my machine! I know all of it's 'mannerisms', and where everything is and how it works. Maybe at some point in the future, I will take him up on his offer, but I highly doubt it. I also have my mom's old machine and I will be taking that in next for servicing, and maybe my granddaughter will inherit it.

Meantime, what's a woman to do without her sewing machine? Why, she goes shopping to collect fabrics for her upcoming project!! I'm going to make my youngest daughter a quilted table topper that she requested from me a few weeks ago. Here's what I started with today...

I wish the blue showed up better...it actually has more of a damask sort of look to it. I will start cutting out my blocks and getting them ready for when my machine comes home.

I didn't get much knitting done today, since I was out shopping for fabric, and then the evening was tied up with going to my grandson's ball game. I am enjoying those so much, I can't even begin to tell you!!! I will get to knit tomorrow for sure, so hopefully I'll get back soon to show you the progress....
