Betty was also a doll collector/dealer and had collected HUNDREDS over the years. She had an ebay shop, and people from all over the world bought from her. I was honored when Kathy told me I must pick a doll...or two...or three...or ??? The next thing I knew, this was in the back of my car...
There are probably at least 75 Barbie dolls in this tub that I have no idea what I'm going to do with. I was hoping to find some little girls that would appreciate a Barbie, but I keep coming up empty handed. None of us have the time to list them on ebay or craigslist, and I'm far from wanting to make money off of Betty's dolls. Then, there are these that Kathy insisted I must take...all procelain...
The three above are still brand new in the box and you can see the wrapping is still on their hands and face. They are beautiful dolls and I might just put them away for my granddaughters. They are older now, but they might still like to have one, just because they are pretty!
The next one I chose because she is what I looked like when I was younger with darker hair and bangs, or at least that's what my husband thought. I will probably keep her.
There are a couple more, but I think you're getting the idea. We also packed up three bags full for some friends with young granddaughters and daughters, so we're starting to make a dent between me and a lot of other people who wanted some.
Betty also had a white corner cabinet in her dining room, and when Kathy and I were neighbors, she also had one. I always wanted one like it, so I was delighted when Kathy and her sister told me I could have their moms!! I'm not sure if I'm going to leave it white or not, but it's perfect in the corner of my dining room. I do need to move my clock over and get things all fixed up in that corner now...for now, I'm going to leave it right where it's at and see if that's where I really want it. I kind of liked having that corner open so that when the kids and grandkids come for dinner, we have room to spread out. We will see....
In other news.....
Today was the first day of kindergarten for my youngest grandson, and he had such a wonderful time. He absolutely loved it and couldn't wait to tell me all about the new friends he made when I picked him up!!! They are just so cute at that age! I should say this is a special program our city offers for two weeks during the summer that they call "transitional kindergarten". It's a wonderful program. The official first day of school for him and his brother is August 6th. They were born so close together that they will both be in kindergarten this year because of the cutoff dates, but they will be in different classrooms.
Knitting has been happening quite a bit, and I'm loving it! I finished one of my socks and have already cast on for the second one, which I have the cuff done and am now working down the leg. I loved doing the afterthought heel, but I need to tweak it some for a better fit. I also want to try the fish lips kiss heel technique, so maybe on my next pair. I love how the stripes are uninterrupted with this heel...it's like magic!!
If you've made it this far, thank you for sticking with me! I promise my next post will be more knitting and spinning related. Oh my gosh, I almost forgot to tell you...I got in our pool for the first time this past Friday!!! Scooter and I had so much fun...just he and I, and it was so relaxing. There is just something about being on the water for me...
