Pause for paws

Ever since the weather started getting really warm, above 90 degrees Farenheit, I began feeling like I was being a bad doggie mom because I wasn't taking my little fur babies for walks. It was just too hot, but I still kept beating myself up for it. Then yesterday, I realized the hot pavement is too much on their little pads, and Izzie, my little chihuahua just doesn't tolerate heat well at all. It's all  the poor little thing can do to keep from passing out from heat exhaustion. So, I came up with a bit of a solution for them. We have a dog park in our neighborhood and yesterday I packed them up around 11 in the morning while it wasn't smoldering out yet, and we went and had us a great time. We were the only ones there, and I think it did the three of us a world of good. There is a track around the perimeter of the park, so as I jogged around it several times, the little ones chased after me, Izzie's little tongue hanging out and Maggie's ears flapping in the wind. I was so happy we all got some exercise! The only thing that disgusts me about it though, is the fact that some pet owners are such slobs. There are at least three dispensers of dog waste bags, as well as trash cans to dispose of them in. It amazes me that even though these are provided, people are too lazy to use them when their dog has a bowel movement!!! Seriously people, pick up after your pets!!! In spite of that, I promised the girls I would take them back a little more often for some exercise.

I got in some relaxation time last night, which means knitting and spinning time!! I have begun spinning for my third skein of yarn, and so far, I'm pleased with it! I finished my first sleeve on my Vodka Lemonade cardi, and cast on for the second one this evening at my knit group. After this sleeve, the knitting will be 100% completed. I will still need to block it and weave in all the ends, but I'm in no big hurry while it's still summer!

Hubby and I don't have any real big plans for the Fourth of July. We try to stay and comfort our pets, and if we do go anywhere, it's usually down the street to some friends' house. They do some pretty decent fireworks and since we will have my grandkids, we will probably take the kids down to watch them. I know we will definitely be doing some swimming and barbecuing! I love summer!!

  1. I love the colour of your cardigan that you're making! I'm making one for my grandson at the moment in greys. Not my usual rainbows but I am enjoying the soft texture of the merino wool. Not having been a dog owner for several years I hadn't thought about the ground being too hot for little feet, maybe you could knit them some little shoes? ;)

    1. Thank you very much!!
Yes, I've always been told that if the pavement is too hot for your feet, then it's too hot for your pet's as well. There is no way they would keep little shoes on though! Haha I just try to keep them on grass when we walk. :)
