Oh mighty Rain Gods

California is currently in the midst of the worst drought we have seen in decades. As I type this, we have a wildfire that has been burning out of control for well over a week now and has consumed over 93,000 acres, or as I think I heard on the news yesterday, 128 square miles. Today, the latest report shows 43% containment, and 8,000 firefighters doing what they do best. I have many friends whose homes have been in the path of this fire, and are living with frayed nerves. It is costing five million dollars a DAY to fight this fire. The entire state would rejoice over the least bit of rain, I'm sure! Originally, the weather reports the past few days showed only slight sprinkles, and then last night, that changed to show some actual rain. We got such a downpour this morning, that it actually woke me up pounding our roof. I jokingly told my friends they were welcome, since I took my car for a wash and wax yesterday afternoon. My version of a rain dance. I only hope and pray it is helping with the fire(s). My heart goes out to those involved in all ways!!

My home is in between a local elementary school and a fire station. The children at the school are taken on field trips to the fire station, and since it's so close, they get to walk to it. My grandsons trip was this past Tuesday with their kindergarten class, and it was so fun walking with them. This morning, I heard more little voices coming down the sidewalk past my house. This was one dedicated teacher, who wasn't going to let rain spoil her class's trip. I look out my window, and all I could see were dancing umbrellas skipping and jumping across puddles. They were all so cute with their rainboots, slickers, and I couldn't resist snapping a picture!!

Last night, I joined the sleeves to the body of my cardigan. I'm so pleased with it so far, but I only hope I knitted the body long enough. I knitted it to the length the pattern stated, but for some reason, it's looking quite short. I'm pretty short waisted, so that might be my saving grace. I don't do belly shirts or sweaters, and I wouldn't be opposed to knitting this pattern again if I have to. My goal is to knit two cardigans by the end of the year, but I'm not making any promises. I have a couple of gifts I want to knit, one for my sister's birthday in November, and one for Christmas. We'll see how that goes...

My cardi has sleeves!

For today, I'm going to snuggle in with some hot coffee, knitting, and savor the scents of Fall!
