Looking through Ravelry this morning, I'm always overwhelmed by the amount of designs/patterns there are out there for us knitters and crocheters. Nearly anything and everything you can imagine is at our fingertips. It's mind blowing how far the industry has come even since I started knitting at the age of 10.......21 51 years ago. Some years, it was off and on, but if I wasn't knitting, then I was crocheting. So, this morning, I began thinking about how many garments and or accessories can I knit before I run out of places to store those finished pieces. Actually, this has been something on my mind now for a couple of months. What does one do with all of these yummy yarny articles? Is it like clothing? When you feel like it no longer fits into your wardrobe, do you donate it, gift it, what? I have daughters...one who doesn't really care to wear anything made from yarn no matter what the fiber content is, and the other is a knitter herself. And my style(s) aren't necessarily theirs, I get that. I have come to the conclusion that I will go through and purge the items I no longer want and to make room for more beautiful items, and maybe give my older granddaughters the choice first to take whatever they want, if anything, then give my friends the opportunity. If I still have things left that I no longer want, perhaps I will just make room for them in one of my cedar chests and who knows, maybe somewhere down the road, I might take a renewed interest in them. Does anyone else do this?

This is my sock drawer and these are something I will never tire of or part with. I mean, seriously, who can resist such a fun luxury on your feet? I still have enough stash to probably knit at least ten more pair, and I will continue to replenish that stash too.
It is turning into such a beautiful day here in my corner of the world, so I'm going to get busy and do a little cleaning today. Then, if it's warm enough out, a nice walk and a visit to the dog park with my fur babies, before I join up with my friends for an evening of camaraderie, laughs, and knitting! I am so blessed!!!
i would say that if you don't have a specific person that wants them then keeping them in the cedar chest is best... you never know down the line what you'll want/need.
ReplyDeleteand, i know i would have been thrilled to find a cedar chest of knitted items that my grandmother, great grandmother... great great grandmother had knit!
save them for posterity!

How I love my handmade socks! Living in the Keys, I rarely need them anymore, but I go to Virginia several times a year and wear them there when it's cold. This coming fall we're going to the Pacific Northwest for at least two weeks, so I'll definitely need them then! Maybe we can stop by and see you again!
ReplyDeleteOh Rita, we would love to see you and Tom again...please keep me posted!!!
