In hopes of not making this too lengthy today, I'll get on with it and show you my two vintage acquisitions to add to my spring decor.
This is probably my favorite find of the day!!!
I was tempted to go back again today, but I need and want to get some serious crafting done! And after church tomorrow, I want to come home and clean up my plants, do some re potting, and it's time to spruce up the front porch! Last night, I did a makeover on my spring wreath that goes on our front door, and I'm pretty happy with it. In my mind, nothing says "welcome" like a wreath on the front entrance to your home. This isn't a real good picture of it (it's a little cocked), and I would like to maybe add some more hydrangea to it, since we do have a huge bush of them close to our front porch. Maybe I can also take care of that little detail tomorrow.
Yesterday was another shopping day for me, and it was so funny to me how on my way home, after having been out for nearly SIX hours, I realized with my weight loss, my legs, feet, and back didn't hurt like they used to. Not one bit!!! I was so thrilled and felt so good, that I came home and did that wreath, fixed some dinner, did all the laundry, and worked on my quilt!! It's funny how it all sneaks up on you without you even realizing it. Had I known what I was doing to myself, and how I was the only one who could change it all around, I would've done it a long time ago! Actually, I think I always knew that, but just wanted to bury my head in the sand about it. I put everyone else first, and now, it's my turn to take care of ME! And everywhere I went yesterday, I ran into people I've known for just about all my life who didn't realize the changes taking place in me currently. I can't tell you how wonderful it was to hear all day long, "wow, you've gotten skinny!!!", or "there's something different about you...have you lost weight?!" I must tell you though, this hasn't been about getting skinny for me. It has been everything about getting healthy! My girlfriend I mentioned above is diabetic and carries her blood glucose testing gadget with her at all times. She tested me and my numbers are now well below the pre-diabetic stage. I can't hardly wait to go back to my doctor next month to show her what I've done. This has been a huge accomplishment for me, I've worked very hard to get to this point, and have no doubt added years to my life!! I have to also thank God for empowering me, and giving me the strength it has taken. I'm truly so blessed!!!
Now, where was I? Oh, the quilt...haha...there are 61 strips that have to be sewn, each 3 1/2 inches wide by 20 inches long. I'm a little over half way done with those, and then some more cutting will take place so I can assemble my blocks. I am loving sewing again and will eventually be making my own clothes once again very soon! While I'm in the early stages of my quilt, I so love the colors and how this is all going to come together...it's a little difficult to see all of the patterns, but in time, you will be able to see what I'm talking about.
The next project I plan to start in the next few days, once my new planner I ordered arrives, will be a combination of scrapbooking, journaling, note taking, etc. I got the idea from watching a podcaster I love, when she talked about getting a new planner so she could stay more organized. I'm taking it a little step further and will be including some photos perhaps (little ones), cute stickers and tapes, and using some of my fancy gel pens to journal about them and take notes. In my travels yesterday, I picked up some adorable stickers, tapes, pretty papers, just all sorts of little doodads...and a gorgeous box to keep it all in. My planner will be here next week and I'm so excited about it. Meantime, I picked up a chipboard calendar style book that I also plan to do some scrapping in. I'll have to show you the progress once I get it off the ground.
Isn't this box pretty? It's actually quite large and I just love it for this purpose!!!
Mail arrived for me quite early this morning and when I saw the box on my doorstep, I remembered I had also done some stash enhancement. I ordered some fingering weight yarn from The Loopy Ewe, for a very special project that I won't be able to share too much detail with you...yet. Sorry, but eventually, I'll be able to. I can tell you it's for an exquisite capelet I'm going to be knitting, designed by Betty Fryer, called the Gossamer Capelet. And no, you won't see it on Ravelry. I met Betty in the Lacy Knitter's Guild when they had a booth set up at Stitches West a few weeks ago, and she happened to have this capelet with her. She let me try it on, and my good friend Lew, as well as a couple of other women, all exclaimed, "Oooohhhh, you HAVE to knit that!!" I fell in love with the way it felt on, light as a feather, and even though it's just feather and fan stitch, it is beautiful!!! The one I tried on was knit in lace weight, but Betty said a faster version could be knit in fingering. I'm on a deadline to get it finished, so I'm choosing the faster way. The yarn I chose is Spud and Cloe in their Fine Sock base and colorway is Tickled Pink. It's a wool and silk blend and feels just beautiful! I'm hoping to cast on this evening, after my grandson's baseball game.
I had to include this shot too because Maggie photo bombed my picture...lol...little stinker loves doing that to me!! See if you can spot her!
Now that I've caught you up on my week, how was yours? Delightful, I hope!!!
