Like dominoes

This might not look very palatable to most of you, but one thing I'm learning to do through my journey to good health is listen to my body. This past Monday evening, I came down with the flu, which totally depletes your body. Accompanied with a nice headache, it's a sure sign you have probably become dehydrated. So Scooter made a trip to the grocery store for some ginger ale, and I alternated that with ice water, even though I'm one of those people who gags on plain water. Not feeling well, it actually wasn't bad, as I was definitely thirsty. However, I couldn't even keep that down for a while, hence, the dehydration. Moving forward, as I'm sure you don't want details, I woke this morning feeling better and somewhat a little hungry. As bad as it sounds and looks, I was craving a spinach egg scramble. I think my body was trying to tell me it needed some potassium. I would've preferred fresh spinach, but when you haven't been to the grocery store in a few days, a can of it will work. In earlier days, I would've just had some toast, but my journey no longer includes bread, and I've learned having protein for breakfast will stay with me until I'm hungry for lunch. I couldn't eat all of this, and another thing I've learned is to eat only until I'm satisfied. With a 'nervous' tummy yet this morning, I certainly wasn't going to push it, but I did need to replenish proteins, vitamins, and fluids. And just for the record, I did have my flu shot, just like I do every year, but apparently there is a new strain scientists hadn't counted on through mutation. My whole family came down with it, one after the other like dominoes. Thankfully, it seems to be a short lived virus!

I was up early this morning to see my husband off to work, and share a cup of coffee and conversation with. I love doing that with him...he's always got such interesting things to talk about and since embarking on my new endeavor, he never fails to tell me how proud he is of me. Just hearing the words are enough for me, but this time, he backed them up with a "reward" as he called it. (Yes, he does have brothers, but sorry, they're all spoken for). My first Coach handbag!!! WHAT?!!? I know...it's beautiful, and I know I will get yeeears of use out of it. I tend to carry bags long after they've gone out of style, but that's just me. I have needed a new purse for a while now, and I'm pretty picky about them. It usually takes me a couple of months..no, seriously, to pick one out that I like. I absolutely love this bag, and just had to share!!! Now, I need to take the wrappings off and fill 'er up...

My shawl, the Nymphalidea is coming along nicely (I need to get it on my project page on Ravelry). I didn't knit for two days, so with my second cup of coffee this morning, after hubby left, I picked it up and did several more repeats. I'm following the pattern exactly, and if I go according to it, I'm just about finished. I've decided though, that I'm just going to keep knitting until I run out of yarn. The yarn is too delicious not to!

Chapter 3 of the Remembering Vanessa cowl has been released, and I need to get that finished. I'm doing the one loop cowl, so after this one, is where I will stop. Once I finish it, as well as the Mystery Socks I was working on, I'm not going to do anymore KALs for a while. I've decided I don't really like deadlines, not at this point in my life anyway. It has nothing to do with all of the wonderful designers and their gorgeous patterns out there, it's me putting too much pressure on myself, and taking on too much at once. I will continue with the ones my local guild challenges us with, as I do enjoy the smaller projects. With my weight loss, I have so many garments I now want to knit and with all of these other knit alongs, it takes time away from that. I think I also mentioned in previous posts how I want to spin for a sweater!

For a little bit on Monday, before I took ill, I managed to sew a few pieces of my quilt. I'm getting so excited for it to come together. This morning, I even felt like pressing the pieces. I was going for a more cottage-y vintage look, and it appears that's exactly what I'm going to end up with!!
