Dusting away summer

This morning when Scooter and I woke up, we discovered a cloudy sky and not long after, some sprinkles followed. There is nothing like that fresh smell of a first rain or sprinkle. We stood out on our patio for a bit filling our nostrils and watching the puzzled look on our teenage cat's face, each time the thunder bellowed across the sky. What a perfect day it was going to be!!!! The raindrops didn't last long, but it was so cozy sitting and having our morning coffee in our sunroom, while we watched Snicks grazing in the grass in the backyard. According to the weather reports tonight, more rain is headed our way here in northern California for tomorrow at about sunset. Yes, I smell Fall!
I managed to get some knitting in today and should be finished by tomorrow with the Thorpe hat I'm knitting for the young guy at Panera's. I am so loving this pattern and am using some old acrylic stash yarn from Lion Brand. Nathan already told me he was going to wear it for skiing, etc., so I figured I might as well make it washable and dryable. If he manages to hang on to it, it should last him for a very long time too. When I cast on for it yesterday, I discovered I didn't have any size 9 DPNs, but I do have size 9 in my Harmony needles, so I decided to give the magic loop method a try. I may never use double points again! I love this technique and have my friend, Carol, to thank for teaching it to me. She also taught me the magic cast on technique in case I should ever want to knit socks from the toe up. Might be fun to try also!!!

The Thorpe comes in three different sizes and I'm loving this pattern so much, I just might make our grandchildren in Colorado each one. For those that aren't on Ravelry, this hat is the Peruvian style with the wide earflaps and ties that hang down in front if you want. Seems it's especially popular these days with the younger generations.

It's getting fairly late, so I'm going to go sit and have some French press coffee with my sweetie while we watch a movie.

Oh, I almost forgot...if you want to see some of the most awesome knitting ever, visit my friend Toni's blog and check out the gorgeous Fair Isle sweater she is knitting. I can hardly wait to see it finished and I'm hoping she will let me watch her steek it...how cool would that be!?!??!?!

Hope y'all are having a great weekend!!

  1. I cant wait for fall weather... it was hot though yesterday and the clouds made it humid. The morning was nice though and last night was nice and cold. The hat is coming out nicely
