October is for mystery

For the first time since joining Ravelry a couple of years ago, I'm biting the bullet and have joined Socktoberfest '09! I'm pretty excited about it so far. The clues will be given to us in five parts; cuff, leg, heel, instep or foot, and toe, which will be given to us each Thursday. At the end of five weeks, I should have a pair of very pretty, yummy socks out of Malabrigo! So far, I've done the cuff to one sock and will do the other one today. I'm doing both of them at the same time so as to avoid second sock syndrome. I've never really experienced that before, or at least I don't think so. I have put away a pair of in progress socks before when a new project took precedence, but not because I was dreading that second sock. Just in case though, I'm just sayin'.
I'm still not real sure on the colorway I chose... Velvet Grapes seems rather dark for what appears is going to be some sort of a lace pattern, but I'm going to go ahead with it since I've already invested in the Malabrigo for them. If I am in love with them at the end, I can always do another pair in a different color.

If you are interested in joining, it's not too late. The first clue just came out this past Thursday and you have until this Thursday before the next one comes out. On Ravelry, head over to the group called Through the Loops, and you can see others pics in the spoiler thread. Over the top pretty in my opinion!

Joining the Socktoberfest naturally called for a trip to the LYS yesterday. I walked out with two skeins of Malabrigo Sock, the Velvet Grapes colorway and another called Solis (blues/greens). I also picked up two balls of Zauberball in a blue variegated. The tag is all in German which I've forgotten from my high school days, so I will just have to take a pic at some point to show you the colors. I bought the Zauberball to knit Scooter a pair of socks for either his birthday or Christmas, whichever one hits when I finish them. I started a pair for him from a Jawoll Sport and wasn't happy with them at all, so those got frogged. Maybe it was the color, just not sure. The Zauberball just seems like it will be much nicer.

We had such a fantastic weekend, but then, Scooter and I both love the sights, smells, and sounds of Fall, as well as spending time together. It's such a cozy time of year!! Oh, one last thing before I bid you a wonderful start to your week....if you happen to also be a knitting podcast junkie like I am, there is a new one called Muststashyo! and I really enjoyed listening to it last night. You can download it from iTunes. I love all the podcasts and more seem to be arriving on the scene almost daily. I applaud anyone who has the moxie to produce one!

Enjoy your start to a new week!!! :=)

  1. Beautiful color. I haven't joined any "alongs" because I have too much to do as it is. The Wedding Stole is coming along nicely, but I only have another month to finish it. Then there are all those doggie sweaters I'm supposed to have knit over the summer for my Yorkie rescue group. I think I'm gonna be kicked out......

  2. wow.. I wish I could do the Socktoberfest. I have to wait until this month is over before I make any commitments... (count down to the final ankle surgery).. :)

Love the colorway... and this whole post was so fun and exciting.

Glad you and the man are enjoying the fall... what a great weekend. And how nice for you to get some socks on the needle for him too. I need to do that... of course my hubby doesn't think handmade for him would be a luxury.. you know..socks are socks for him. :) Maybe I can change his mind... or not..all the more for me... :)

  3. Thank you Rita! This is my first 'along' and it seems it will be as easy one since the clues only come out once a week. Since they are broken up into segments like that, I'll have a pair of socks before I know it!
I can hardly wait to see your wedding stole and I'm sure you will make it!!!
The doggie sweaters can't be all that big, right? I mean, they're for a Yorkie...haven't you learned to knit in your sleep yet? LOL

  4. Toni, Scooter had no idea that a man could have hand knit socks either until I knitted his one and only pair last year. Now everytime he sees me cast on for what looks like a pair to him, he asks if they are for him? lol He loves his knit socks and tells me all the time how special they are to him. I guess he will know when I don't like him anymore...no more socks! LOL
I might frog this cuff today and find a different colorway...I'm still not too sure about it. We will see...

  5. It takes less time to knit a doggie sweater than a pair of socks, but they're all acrylics, and I hate that stuff. Many Yorkies are allergic to wool. Plus I have to keep track of how many stitches to bind off then cast back on for the leg hole, and we'll just end up with "I'm too damned lazy to do them." That works.

  6. Yeah, not my favorite stuff either, but sometimes you have to 'just do it'. LOL..and lazy works for me too!
