My friend, Toni, received her new Kindle 2 over the weekend, and although I haven't seen it yet, I'm dropping hints to Scooter for Christmas. From what she has blogged about so far, it looks like it's an amazing tool for reading as well as for knitting and crocheting patterns. I especially like the idea of being able to make permanent notes on your patterns, and highlighting the row you're working on. It also seems like the price you save on books will more than pay for the Kindle itself in the long run. I wasn't very intrigued when audio books first arrived on the scene in our lives, because a)they were pricey in my opinion, and b) I'm not sure you can save your place (I might be wrong about this, not sure). Santa, if you're listening or reading this......if not, that will be okay too, because I'm still a huge fan of books in any form!

Last week, I was given a bag full of Homespun yarn by Lion Brand (thank you again Carol), and decided to make some more scarves for a charity I belong to on Ravelry. I finished one last night that I will be sending with the other two this week that I've already completed. I used the Misti Chunky Ribs & Ruffles Scarf by Nancy Kleiber. It's a very easy pattern with a ruffle at each end that adds the perfect touch to what would be an 'ordinary' scarf in my opinion. I learned something about knitting with this yarn though...it is NOT contact wearer friendly. On two separate occasions, I managed to get a piece of it in my eyes and apparently trapped under my contacts. Can we say "OUCH"?!?!? I immediately pulled my contacts out and began fishing for the fiber. That stuff must stick like velcro!!! Scooter even got my Dazor lamp out to see if he could find it in my eye. We flushed, we rubbed, we put ice on the orb, and still nothing! We gave up and went to bed with the idea that possibly it would work itself out, and it felt better keeping my eye closed anyway. The next morning, when I woke up, my eye wouldn't open...yup, swollen and glued shut. We used some warm cloths to coax it open and the rest of the day was spent wearing my glasses. I don't mind them, but they aren't my first preference. This happened twice...the first time with my right eye, then a couple of days later, my left eye. Lesson learned here....wear safety glasses when working with this yarn. Who would've ever thought!?!? The scarf is now finished and it is truly a gift from the heart!
I'm back to working on socks for Scooter. I'm loving how they are looking and can hardly wait to get them done. I love it when I give him something I've knitted for him. It's obvious how much it sends him over the top and I love watching his reaction. Hopefully, I will remember my camera and get a shot of him when I give them to him. The yarn is very soft, but I wish this Zauberball wouldn't tangle so easily. I have spent well over an hour this morning trying to detangle it, but because it's wool, it sticks to itself. Ugh. I may end up cutting it and reattaching it, we will see.
I hope your Monday is off to a great start. As we approach Thanksgiving here in the US, I'm extra mindful of all the things I have to be grateful for. Ain't life grand?!!!!!
That is a really pretty scarf, I like that pattern :0). The Kindle sounds awesome! I cant wait to see the socks! That yarn is really pretty
ReplyDeleteI discovered Kindle for the pc last night and downloaded it free. I bought one book for $1.99 and got several more that are free! I'd still rather hold a book in my hands than read it on a computer, but having it on the laptop should do okay.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh thank you, Rita...I will have to check that out!!!
ReplyDeleteI know I read this post before. Did I fail to comment on that lovely scarf? Hope you are having a lovely December.
