Mice, rats, opposum, lizards, any kind of varmint like that, will send me running like my booty is on fire. What I didn't realize is how vocal I can become, (and I become very agile when I need to get up on top of a table or something), until Scooter commented after he did away with the 'present', Snicks the cat, brought to us last night. "Wow honey, have you ever thought about doing one of those Memorex commercials like they used to have where the wine glass broke when Ella Fitzgerald hit those high notes?" On my way to take Maggie the puppy out to go potty, you have to go through our sun room to get to the door leading into our backyard. I had forgotten that Snicks was already outside and when he heard the screen door open, he ran in like he usually does. What I didn't see was the little mouse dangling from his teeth, that is, until I noticed Maggie wasn't following behind me anymore. I turned just in time to catch the both of them torturing the mouse Snicks was so proud of himself for catching, and even still I had no pity for the critter. The movie Willard (from 1972? or thereabouts) comes to mind. Call me inhumane, or whatever, but they just flat gross me out, and send me screaming into the next Tuesday. It is rare that I am home on a Wednesday when Scooter comes in from work. I had gone to my Wednesday night knitting group, but I hadn't been feeling well all afternoon, so I didn't stay. Scooter knew this, so when he heard me do the Memorex scream, he said it scared the youknowwhat out of him. He came running and saw what Snicks brought to us, grabbed some paper towels to scoop it up with, and on his way out of the house, I told him I did not want to know what he did with it, so please just pretend it didn't happen when he came back in. Oh no, he couldn't just do that, he just HAD to make that comment about the commercial and recount the whole incident for me, all the while, laughing hysterically. "Man, I've never heard you scream like that before honey. You sure have some healthy lungs there!" Ha. Ha. Ha. This morning, as I type this, it still gives me the creeps. I'm surprised I didn't have nightmares. During the three years Snicks has been with us, that is the first time he has done that. All part of the food chain logic I suppose, but ewwwwww!!!
Lots of knitting has happened since I last posted, so I'm feeling quite accomplished this week. I finished knitting the rectangular moss stitch pieces, to be used in an afghan for a Ravelry forum friend, soaked and blocked them, and will package them up today to get them sent off to my contact person in Washington. I can hardly wait to see the completed afghan. As I've said before, it's going to be phenomenal!!! Knitting with the Bainin was so wonderful, that I would love to do a sweater for myself out of it. One of these days.

Yesterday, when I thought I was going to have to spend the whole morning in a doctor's office, I realized I didn't have anything on my needles that doesn't take much concentration. No car or waiting room knitting at all. That was easily remedied last night when I cast on for a pair of socks for Scooter. This isn't a good picture of what I have started, but as I progress further and I have some good lighting when the sun comes up (yes, we get up before the roosters!), I will share more. I'm using Regia and if I had kept up with my German from high school, I could tell you the colorway. Oh well, not important, but I can tell you it's a very masculine colorway. Scooter prefers his socks to come up mid-calf, so I've decided I will probably put in solid heels and toes to ensure I have enough yardage of the Regia, and because I think it would make a very handsome pair of socks for him. Many thanks to Jasmine and Gigi of the podcast The Knitmore Girls, for this yarn. It was in a goody bag they were giving out a couple of years ago (?) at Stitches West.
There has been progress on my Coin Lace Stole as well. This is such a pretty pattern and I'm enjoying it tons! I have never knit with cashmere before and it is absolutely lovely. I'm using Peruvian Baby Cashmere from Elann.com in a dark purple colorway. It has a very nice halo to it and is so amazingly soft to the touch. This is a free pattern on elann.com, and it's similar to the Clapotis in that there are rows of dropped stitches. Unlike the Clapotis though, it has rows of lace in between the dropped rows. There is a scarf or stole version, and for this yarn, I'm making the scarf version. I also have some wool/silk blend in a laceweight that I will probably use for a stole version. More on that later though when I get started on it.
I'm usually a monogamous knitter/crocheter, but I'm actually quite liking having a variety of different things to work on!
I hope you've had a good week! Oh, and if you like reading fun blogs, one of my favorites is called cherry makes. Tania has a unique and very fun style of writing, sort of a humorous sarcastic tone, which I really enjoy. When she goes MIA, I miss her blog, and what's going on in her life. I'm just nosey like that. Like me, she tends to share a few things about her personal life, which I think makes people become more real...if that makes any sense. Anyway, she does some lovely knitting, and has a wonderful sense of humor, so head on over and check her out!!
