You're probably wondering about the title of this post, but I'll get to that in just a moment. Scooter and I had such a satisfying, fun weekend. He planned to go hang out with his gun club, but the range didn't open on Saturday until noon. Perfect! It gave us time to lounge a bit together with our coffee over breakfast. He has a pretty stressful job, so I like nothing better than seeing him enjoy something he loves so much. It makes my heart smile! After he left for the range, I got myself together and headed over to the LYS. The scarf I'm crocheting...yeah, I want it to drape the way it does on the model in the magazine. That's it in the pic above, cute huh? I've seen others who made theirs barely big enough to go around a child's neck...I'm guessing they have to tie the ends around the back of their necks? I dunno.....personally, I don't want to feel like I'm being strangled by a kerchief. Just sayin'.....Anyway, I wanted to go pick up some more yarn. When I purchased my yarn, I didn't have my magazine or the pattern with me. Well, I didn't really expect to find the perfect yarn for it that day either, and I couldn't remember the exact yardage from the first time I had started it. I went and bought two more skeins of the Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool (love that stuff..soft and drapey!), which should give me enough to bring the ends of the scarf down the front for a very stylish and trendy look. I didn't get to wind my yarn and finish my scarf yet...on my way home from the LYS, I got a phone call from a good friend telling me her parents were in town and wanted to see me and Scooter. We met for dinner at a wonderful Mexican restaurant we hadn't tried yet. What an awesome time we had!!! I sat next to my friend's dad and the guy couldn't get over how I had grown up. lol I haven't seen them for about 35 years, maybe even longer. Talk about sweet though...everytime he made me laugh, he would say "there's that fantastic smile I remember!" They live about two hours from us, and it just so happens that where they live is part of Scooter's territory. It was so heartwarming to see how much they loved Scooter (they had never met him before) by the end of the evening, and told us we are always welcome at their home when we're in town! While at the LYS, I had a brilliant idea....since I'm participating in Socktoberfest and knitting the mystery socks by Kirsten Kapur, why not knit a second pair at the same time for a Christmas gift? So, I picked up this yarn by Cherry Tree Hill and will cast on for them this week. This past Friday, we received our second clue and I've nearly completed the leg portion of one sock. So far, I'm loving this pattern! You might not be able to see the detail on the leg part, but it's "tiny boxes"...a basketweave stitch. Once I finish, I will block them and you will be able to see them better. Or, I might get time to pull out my sock blockers and put them on so you can get a better idea.
There has been progress on Scooter's funky monkey socks...I'm about midway through the foot, and I can hardly wait to add the red toe. lol Did I hear someone say that men's feet and ears grow with age? Or is it their ears and nose? If it's their feet, this may be the last pair of handknit socks Scooter ever gets from me. lol
N and I stood talking for quite a while, and we discovered that we're both knitters, and of course, I also crochet. She is fairly new to knitting, had no clue about Ravelry, and wants help with knowing the better/best yarns for the different projects, and where to find them. I came home thinking she probably doesn't even know about Stitches either, so I will definitely be inviting her! She is knitting some baby hats right now and needs some help with them, so I told her she is welcome to come over anytime and we'll get down to business. She jumped at that one...she's coming over tonight! lol It should be fun...I have two other neighbors that know how to knit and want a refresher mini course since it's been a while, so I may drop by and invite them over for the evening as well. Knitting, crocheting, Irish Coffees...I love Fall!!!!
