My husband is sending me on a couple of errands today, and with all of the new decorating I've been doing in our home lately, I'm resisting the urge to make a couple of stops at some stores that carry goods for the home. I think I might already have failed in my mind though, and I haven't even left the house yet. A couple of years ago, I discovered mercury glass, but for some reason, I stopped at one piece. I'm not sure why, because I love that certain look of aged elegance about it. I have a few small votive candle holders, but only one bigger piece, another candle holder. Have I ever mentioned my small case of OCD? That's where the resistance comes in and I know I will fail at it miserably. I can't let go of the idea of stopping at the store, two to be exact (HomeGoods and Hobby Lobby), and buy a couple more pieces of mercury glass. My home is filling up with lots of new baubles, but I love decorating and with Christmas coming, I'm already getting excited at the prospect of changing things around again, and adding in more shiny baubles.
Do you do any special decorating for the holidays? I would love to see it!!
My knitting and spinning is still on course, but I would love to get ahead of my personal deadlines. I've almost finished with an eight ounce bump of a yak and silk blend, and while it's a mess to spin, it is so delicious. It is slippery and unless I wear an apron while spinning it, I end up with what some might think is a shedding cat all over my clothes. It spins up so lovely though and I'm putting a bit of a high twist to it, since it isn't a real long staple fiber, and the last thing you want to have happen is having your yarn break in the middle of a project because it lost its twist. It will be beautiful yarn with a sheen to it though, and I'll post a pic when I've finished it.
Everyone loves to receive 'happy' mail, so I started a tradition with my grandchildren and surprise them with small care packages every once in a while, to let them know I'm thinking of them, and that I love them with all my heart. My latest recipient is going to be my 17 year old granddaughter, Emily. She loves to journal her thoughts, so a new journal, along with her favorite lip gloss from Victoria's Secret, and an adorable commuter cup that has a rhinestone encrusted mirror on the side of it. Below it, it says, Hello Gorgeous. Since she drives, I'll probably add some gas money. I mean, seriously, what teen doesn't like to have gas money? It gives them mobility.
I need to get moving and get these in the mail to Emily, along with some hats I've knitted and crocheted for charity. The last two I have done have been crocheted, because they are faster, and I found a really cute pattern. This one though, is for one of my husband's granddaughters. She saw one of the ones I did for Halos of Hope, and requested one. You just can't say "no" to grandchildren!
So, resistance? Hmmmm...don't think it's going to work for me, especially when it comes to making a beautiful home for my family, and grandchildren!
