It seems I did a bang up job of filling up my week, or as they say, I was burning the candle at both ends! I probably haven't posted about signing up at the gym with my daughter, so I will tell you now. I am absolutely loving it! Not only do I get to have some mother-daughter time, we are both becoming more fit. We mainly do classes together at this point, but plan to expand eventually as time and schedules allow. This is the first gym I have ever felt so at ease in going to, so I see myself sticking with it for a very long time.
This past Monday, I went and spent some time with my 91 year old friend I taught to crochet and knit a year and a half ago. She isn't doing very well, and can't remember how to tell time anymore, but she can still crochet! The mind does such strange things sometimes. I have grown to become quite attached to her, so it's heartbreaking to see her beginning to fail. I just love seeing the smile on her face when I appear at her door!
On Tuesday, I met my daughter at the gym for a class called Pound. It's a cardio routine done with weighted drum sticks and is more fun than what I was expecting. I feel so much better afterwards. I came home and took my dogs for a walk, which they look forward to everyday. After that, I showered and headed off to one of two knitting groups I belong to. It's a wonderful group of women that I really enjoy knitting with, and all of them are fantastic knitters!
Wednesday came before I knew it and it was time for my Ukulele class at the college. I was the first to arrive after our instructor and he was telling me how I should come to the strum-a-long he hosts at the store he owns on Friday night. I told him I might, but I probably wouldn't bring my uke. He said if I didn't, he would just make me pull one off his store shelf and use it. I took mine and I'm so glad I did! I had the best time and loved playing it...and surprisingly, I could actually keep up with most songs. I can't believe what a fun instrument the ukulele is to play!!! I can already see myself joining the ukulele club too. My husband plays guitar, so I suggested he come with me the next time since he has a tendency to pick up my uke and can already play songs on it. He's just good like that though...he plays by ear.
After class, I headed over to join up with the other knitting group I knit with, and spent the rest of the evening with those ladies. Another fabulous group who does beautiful work.
The first Thursday of each month, my local knitting guild has a meeting, so that was this past Thursday. Another awesome group of people I'm so blessed to call friends!! Some of them, I only see once a month at this meeting, so it is always a very fun time to catch up. I almost forgot, it was gym class again this morning too!
As for Friday, I already told you in the Wednesday paragraph...I got ahead of myself a little bit. It was the strum-a-long, and I just considered it to be two hours worth of practice AND fun!!
Once a year, a town about 45 minutes away from where I live, holds a Lamb Festival, or as most people call it "Lambtown". I had never gone before, so today I decided I would see what it was all about. It was better than what I expected and I had a great time. I ran into so many of my friends, and even made a couple of new ones. This festival is all about the sheep, so there is much in the way of yarn and spinning fibers to be had! I thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely put it on my calendar for next year.
The yarn I bought is from a woman who calls her business, "FishKnits". This is 400 yds. of merino and nylon blend and the colorway is called Gettysburg. I don't have a particular project in mind for it yet, but the colors were so striking and so "fall-ish", it needed to come home with me! I also bought two pounds of a BFL (Blue Faced Leicester) and it is ready to be spun. I wanted to get enough for a sweater/cardigan this time and that should be more than enough. It's in its natural colors, and I don't want to change a thing about it!!
Now, I bet you're wondering what's on my agenda for tomorrow? NOTHING. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Well, a walk with my dogs, straightening up the house a bit, but beyond that, maybe just sit and do some knitting!
