It's not like I don't have plenty of other projects that have been in the works to pick back up. It's just trying to decide which one. Even though this one requires quite a bit of concentration and focusing, I'm tempted to go with it. I bought the pattern and the oh-so-gorgeous Anzula yarn at Stitches West 2013. It's so pretty and light as a feather.
After Stitches West 2014, I came home and took inventory of my stash. It wasn't that monumental of a task, but there is plenty to keep me busy probably for the rest of the year. As I prepared to frog Akimbo last night, the yarn devil began running through my head whispering subliminal messages to me, such as "you know you want more yarn", and "your LYS is having a sale this weekend". All it took was one time though of me telling my knitsibs at my Wednesday night knit group, that I was going on a yarn diet for the rest of the year. They are quick to tempt me because they don't think I can follow through with my commitment. However, I did tell myself if I knit at least five things from my stash, I might treat myself. Also, since I spin, there is always fiber to turn into yarn, and I did not exclude fiber stash enhancement. Oh, and I did tell the gals that if I made a yarn purchase, it had to go immediately on the needles. In other words, I had to already have a project in mind that I was going to knit right away. My main, well, my only goal was to reduce my stash, so no more stash enhancement for a year unless I meet my criteria...the five items.
Here in northern California, we have a small town called Dixon. I remember when it was maybe all of ten houses and a gas station, along with a few sheep ranchers. It was a blip as you drove past on the highway. The don't blink sort of thing. They now hold a festival each year at the fairgrounds, that draws thousands, called Lambtown. You probably know where this is going, don't you? I had been thinking about going to it every year, but I wasn't a spinner back then, so it held no appeal for me. I finally went last year, and was I ever surprised! Beautiful yarns and fibers to be had in exchange for your credit card! I ran into so many friends I hadn't seen in a while, who were more than willing to enable me. I got this wild hair that I needed enough fiber to spin for a sweater. I mean, why not? I know how to spin, albeit not perfectly, yet, but I would never know unless I tried. So, I purchased two pounds of a merino/silk blend roving, and didn't look back. That was last October and it is still untouched. This is what one pound looks like, and underneath it in my basket is another one pound. It will be more than enough for a sweater!
Tour de Fleece is coming up. It's a challenge hosted by many different people on Ravelry, and runs in conjunction with, yep, you guessed it, Tour de France. Last year, I belonged to the Knitmore Girls team, and have already committed myself again for this year. I've been told that Jasmin said we could already start spinning our fiber, because hers is not only a spin along, but a knit along as well. In other words, you spin, and then knit a sweater. Obviously, this can't be done in a two week span, so I'm sure that's why she said to go ahead and start if we wanted. I'm planning to start soon, I just need to either purchase some more bobbins for my wheel, or free up some. I've got a while though, so I've been spinning the past couple of days every chance I got, and in the coming week, I should be able to free up a couple of bobbins so I can get started on that beautiful fiber above.
Well, if I can't make up my mind on what to knit, there is always my other passion, spinning!
