Multiplicity

There was a time in my knitting career where I refused to cast on for anything new until the current project was completed. I would tell myself I wasn't allowed to do that. It goes back to something my dad said to me as a young child, that I have never forgotten. I remember it like it was yesterday, but suffice to say it had something to do with finishing projects before another was started. Well, it didn't exactly have anything to do with a "project", but rather with a game of Monopoly. I have learned throughout the years though that it really is okay to have multiple projects going, so long as they get completed or the mess is cleared off the slate. Since I cleared the slate of a project (Akimbo) yesterday, I felt completely okay with casting on another last night. I bought the pattern called Kennedy by Lynda Rossetti, at Stitches West 2014. I haven't decided who it will be for yet, but I'm thinking either myself or my sister-in-law. She asked me last summer if I would knit her a poncho, so this one might just be perfect for her. So far, I've only done three rows, but I also put another repeat on my Maighdean Mhara scarf. I didn't get a picture of it yet, but I will keep you posted on its progress. I'm knitting this poncho from Euroflax Sport Weight Linen in the colorway Aqua. It's done on size 8 (US) needles, so should go pretty fast.

Today was another busy day helping my daughter out with my grandchildren. I asked if I could pick them up from school and take them for a treat. I love having them over, and since they just live right around the corner from us now, I'm having so much fun with them. They are such good children and are growing up way too fast! My soon to be eleven year old grandson even begged me to let him mow the backyard. I showed him how to work the mower, and away he went! They are all definitely full of energy, and they make me laugh with the things they do and say.

After the boys (4 and 5 yr old grandsons also) and I finished the yardwork (surprise for Papa), we came inside for a cold drink, and some cartoons. There might have been some crafting going on too. My eleven year old has learned that you can make things out of duck tape (what JoAnn's calls it), and the two little guys love helping. While they busied themselves with that, and my 13 year old granddaughter played with the dogs and watched tv, I slipped off into my sewing/spinning/crafting 'office' and did some spinning. I finished up a four ounce braid of merino and will hopefully turn it into a 2-ply tomorrow. I have finally settled back into spinning every day, and besides my grandchildren, this puts a smile on my face.

Yes, it has been a productive day, but a fun one too! My heart swells everytime I hear one of these children say "grandma". :)
