Could be a slippery slope

You might say I have fallen down another rabbit hole. I can't seem to stay away from the garden centers. They are just beautiful this time of year. The colors, the lovely scents, well, who could blame anyone for wanting to be surrounded by all of that. Oh, and then there are the water features with the water trickling over the rocks and making such soothing sounds. My main focus though are vegetable starts, more flower pots, soil, and adding more color to my front porch. Today, I planted another hot pepper plant for my husband. He loves Jalapenos, and we do enjoy making our own salsa. The zucchini starts found a home in the same flowerbed as my lilacs. I had about a 4 ft space between those and the end of the bed, so I used it. We will have to wait and see if they do any good there though, since the soil is not the best. The lilacs seem to love it, so let's see how the veggies do there. While I was at the nursery, I made the decision that I was going to try growing strawberries in pots too. I have never done it that way, but since I have other plans for our back yard that doesn't include a garden, I thought I might give it a go. I bought a nice big planter box and turned it into my strawberry patch. I'm so eager to see what happens with all of the starts I have planted.

Wait! Did I say my back yard plans don't include a garden? Ha! That's not what I meant to say, because what they do possibly include is a greenhouse. I have been thinking about it for a while now. My sister-in-law has a huge one and it's absolutely amazing. Of course, we don't have 6 acres to put one that big on, but I'm considering a small one. Just think, an indoor garden of sorts!! The possibilities are endless! However, I first must convince my husband that this isn't just a passing fancy. Hmmmm...plotting my strategy! :)

More color I added to my front porch

I just love having plants and flowers at my front door, so I added the ones in the above photo, and repotted a medicinal aloe that had been living in our sun room. The poor thing was so root bound, so I'm sure it will be much happier now.

Even though I worked outside most of today, I still managed to cast on for a hat an old friend from high school asked me to make for his mother. I think I might have told you about it in my previous post. I have knit the Gerri Hat before and remember enjoying it very much. The link takes you to the page it's on in Ravelry. This pattern is by Marlaina "Marly" Bird, and is a really cute design. It's hard to see it when it's done in black yarn, but hopefully my friend's mom will like it anyway.

I also cast on for another project, but I'm not ready to share that one with you yet. It's super pretty, and the best part is I'm using yarn I purchased at Stitches West in like 2011, maybe 2010? I love stashbusting!!
