One sketch at a time

When I picked my grandson up from school today, he wanted to get a snack before we began our venture into doodling and sketching. One of our favorite places to go to for a snack is frozen yogurt, and while we were eating it, he asked me where we were going next. He got very excited when I told him "to the bookstore!" His older brother and sister taught him the love for having journals, so when I also told him we were going to look at sketch journals, he said "c'mon nana, hurry!" Haha Have you ever tried to "hurry" with frozen yogurt? Ouch..throat freeze. I keep saying I'm going to bring a hot coffee with me each time, and never do.
We each picked out our journals, found some cool colored pencils, and some equally awesome No.2 pencils. Then he wanted to know where we were going to go to "doodle?" I led the way to the in-store Starbucks, got us a table, and both of us anxiously began. I knew the layout I wanted for mine, which was all different sizes of rectangles and squares, with rounded off corners. He wanted his just random, full page. I'll admit I'm a much better painter and knitter than I am a sketcher, but the whole idea is to just doodle what comes to mind. Grandson #4 on the other hand was becoming quickly frustrated with his because it wasn't "perfect." I explained to him that nothing you see is perfect, and even went and found some art books to show him how Van Gogh's wasn't perfect. We still have a long ways to go, me with my doodling, and he with his attitude. Maybe in the future, I will be able to show you much better sketches/doodles, but for today, we had a great time, and that's all I really wanted for my grandson!!

Far from perfection, but that wasn't our purpose anyway. We spent the afternoon together, without siblings, and that was perfect!!

Tonight was my local knitting guild meeting, and I had so much fun. It's always a good time seeing so many friendly faces of other knitters, but the 'show 'n tell' and 'challenge' portions of the meeting was exceptional tonight. So many gorgeous entries, and unusually inspiring projects. Now if I can just recall the names of some of the patterns so I can add them to my Ravelry queue. The best part was welcoming back a couple of members who have been seriously ill for the past several months. It was so good to see them looking well again!!! I turned in the child's chemo hat I got the yarn and pattern for last month. These are for the Keaton Raphael Foundation, which is such a worthy cause. I also picked out some more yarn, and another pattern to knit another one. They go so fast, and turn out so nice! The guild does a lot of charity work, and that's one of the reasons I'm proud to be a member!
Most people who come to the meetings, also bring a project they're working on, and knit during the meeting. So tonight, I brought my sock and accomplished quite a bit. I'm almost to the halfway point on the foot....I can hardly wait to pull that red yarn out and do the heel!

And Look!!! There was actually some spinning that happened during my morning coffee. I'm trying to get this batt spun up before Saturday...

After that, I will more than likely start spinning this beautiful superwash Blue Face Leicester, in the Violet colorway. I couldn't get the color to photograph well, but maybe after it's spun it might cooperate.

It's definitely been another full day, and I cherished every second of it!!!
