A few years ago, I began hanging potted plants and flowers on my front porch, not even thinking the doves would build their nests in them. Personally, I would rather they build them elsewhere, since I can't water my plants when they take up residence. This year, a pair thought my hanging geraniums would make the perfect love shack. We watched them gather up twigs, working furiously, and Scooter even provided them with some of my yarn scraps. Then I noticed each of them sitting on the nest continuously, but one day, I noticed it unattended, so I lifted the basket down from the hook, and lo, there were two little white eggs in the nest. I quickly hung it back up, checked on it later, and either mama or daddy was back sitting on them. It was never left alone again.
Until yesterday......
The first thing I always did since the new tenants moved in, was pour myself a cup of coffee, and then go to my window to see what was going on in their basket. Yesterday morning, the nest was vacant...again. By afternoon, there was still no sign of mom or dad. By dinnertime, I became pretty concerned about those eggs, so I jumped on the internet and learned that oftentimes, they will abandon the nest. I felt like I needed to check on those eggs, so I lifted the basket of geraniums down from its hook again, and discovered the eggs were no longer there!!! It's now a mystery to us what happened to them, but our guess is probably a blue jay got them. We have a lot of them around us. My husband calls them "crows with blue suits". Lol
So, there is a vacancy....
I worked for a little bit on my Vodka Lemonade aka "Wrath of Grapes Cocktail" cardi this morning. It felt so good to get back to it, and now I don't want to stop again. I have reached the point where I begin the waist shaping, and since I measured myself and seem to be where I need to be, I'm good to go. I will work the pattern as written, but I am still considering lengthening it. I'm short-waisted, so I won't have to do too much modification.
I hope you have a lovely weekend!!
