The bear who hitched a ride

When you only work on socks at schools while waiting for kids to be dismissed for the day, and during pedicures, it's bound to take a fair amount of time for them to come off your needles. I was ecstatic when I took that last stitch to close up the heel on that second sock!! These socks were my first time of doing the afterthought heel, and I can tell you I will definitely use this as my 'go-to' heel from now on...well, for my socks anyway. I think I may still use the regular heel flap for my husband's socks as he likes them cushioned. I used the pattern by Laura Linneman, with my usual 64 stitch plain vanilla recipe for the rest of the sock. The yarn is from Plymouth in their Neon Now colorways, and they are so fun to look at! These socks put a smile on my face everytime I look at them. The fit is amazing; I feel like the heel just hugs my foot for that perfect fit!

While my grandkids were at school today, I took the opportunity to go across town to say hello to some friends of mine who meet up at a Barnes & Noble for coffee and some knitting time. The book club I belong to has chosen our second book to read in the Ken Follett trilogy about World War ll. So, it also gave me a chance to pick Winter of the World up, so I can be ready to start it on Monday with the group. I've only got a couple of chapters to go in Fall of Giants, so I plan to read this weekend. We don't have any real plans, as we prefer to stay off the highways for the major holidays. My sister has invited us to her home for a bbq, and I will be able to give my brother-in-law his socks that I finished the other day.

I picked up my book, chatted for a bit with the knitsibs, and headed back across town to pick up my grandkids from their schools. I pick up the two kindergartners first, then head over to the middle school to get their two older siblings.
The two little guys are in the same class, so it makes it very easy. I think I've explained before how they are 10 months apart...they might as well be twins. They are very different in their personalities! The older one tends to be more analytical perhaps, and not quite as outgoing as the younger one. Huck, the older one, tends to enjoy tattling on Olli, while Olli is the little 'storyteller'. Yesterday when I picked them up, as we are driving down to the middle school, Huck tells me that Olli stole a bear from their classroom. A what?!!? "A bear, Nana, Olli stole that little bear he has!" So when I stopped at the light, I looked back at them and see Olli holding a little green plastic bear. He is vehemently denying he stole it..."I did NOT steal it HUCK!" So I said, "well, then how did you get it Oliver?" He says, "I didn't take it Nana, it fell in my pocket!!!" Hahahaha "Olli, how does something just fall in your pocket?" and he says, "well, I was standing next to the table, and it fell in my pocket!" I took the bear and gave it to his older sister who was going to inform my daughter, their mother.

Today, I picked them up from school, and right away, Huck wants to tell me everything Olli has done wrong since I saw them yesterday. Hahahaha The one thing that did catch my attention though was when he told me Olli cut his hair with his school scissors last night. WHAT!??! This time, he didn't try denying anything. It wouldn't have done any good anyway, the proof was right there in front of me. Every one of my daughter's kids have done this, except for Huck. Oh dear...maybe he will eventually drop some sort of childhood bombshell on us. Their older brother got hold of his dad's electric mustache trimmer one time the night before school picture day, and gave himself a sort of punk rocker look right across the front of his hairline. Hahahaha He called my daughter up (they are divorced) and told her he was going to have to fix his hair before he could have pictures made, and my daughter told him, "no, don't...these are those childhood memories that are great to capture in pictures." Hahahaha  I'm not sure you can see the 'patches' he created on the side there in the pic, but take my word for it, they are there! hahahaha It is never a dull moment with these kids..is it any wonder I have so much fun with them?!?! They make me laugh daily...

I hope you have laughter and joy in your life...it strengthens the immune system, releases the endorphins, and lightens our load on the journey through life.
